Excellent machine - heavy duty and easy to use

I've had this machine for more than three years now and I love it. I've had way fancier and certainly much pricier machines that I didn't like half as much. It is a simple, fuss-free machine with a good array of stitch-types and adjustments, an automatic buttonhole function, and a strong, reliable motor. With a bigger needle, it will punch through pretty much anything you can fit under the foot. It's absolutely perfect for beginners, but I've been sewing for thirty years and it's everything I need for my projects, which include fine apparel, crafts, and home decor. Price-wise, this machine simply cannot be beat for value and reliability. I actually bought a second one in case Singer stops making this model!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice beginner sewing machine for light fabrics

Easy to use, but I don't know why it's considered heavy duty. I made some box cushion covers and had constant jams and the timing kept getting off. It was easy enough to open up and adjust, but it literally happened every 20 minutes. Eventually I noticed the worm gear was stripped. I can't seem to find that replacement part anywhere, so I have to buy a new machine.
I think this is probably fine for very light materials, but I wouldn't recommend it for any heavier fabrics. I guess for the price, you shouldn't expect more, but I don't think they should advertise it as heavy duty.

Problems when new

Verified Purchase:No
Purchased new. The needle position dial will not move the needle position. It stays to the left. It will not center. Can not be used for zippers in this setting. I could not find anywhere else to ask about this. Anyone else have this problem? If I get this figured out I would give it 5 stars.

I bought singer 4423 about an year ago. Since them I loved making tote bags small pouches some quilting patchwork. About 2 weeks ago I wanted to explore a little more. I decided to make my first piece of clothing. Was very excited. I decided to give a shot to button hole attachment. After trying it on a piece of fabric to see how it works the machine went into reverse stitch. I tried everything to figure out how to fix it on my own by googling and you tube videos. But it was not working. Finally took it to repair shop. They couldn’t fix it. The mechanic told me it will cost me way more to fix the issue. As long as I don’t use the button hole attachment the machine will work fine. I am so disappointed with singer. The mechanic shared an interesting information about the singer machines. He said singer company sold and out sourced these machine manufacturing and slapping the name on these cheap made machines without much quality control. Really disappointed to hear that. My mom had Singer machine with manual pedal. I grew up see her make so many beautiful pieces. That’s the main reason I chose Singer out of all the other machines available on the market. Hope singer will fix the issue I have. I ended up paying same amount of money trying to get it as the original cost of the machine.

I was wondering how a Singer would sew because I had gotten very used to the Husquvarna. It's been great. The machine just buzzes along. It runs very smoothly. So far I've been hemming curtains - 6 of them - and it's easy to use. Starting on alterations to corduroy pants which is why I wanted the heavy duty. I'm getting good speed control with the pedal. I'm glad I looked at the bobbin requirements - you have to use plastic because there's a magnet in the machine and the metal ones will wreak havoc with it. I'm happy with this purchase.

More than 12 years of use so far

I bought this machine when I started making period dress for re-enactors because the fabric is often very heavy. And I was sewing for grandsons. Boy's clothes are often thicker fabrics. It's been an ideal machine, sews denim and upholstery fabrics. Quick and easy to thread. I've owned 9 sewing machines in my life, have several now, but this is the one I use the most.

Don't Buy, poorly made garbage
on July 8, 2024

This machine is a cheap piece of garbage. I purchased my Singer Heavy Duty 4432 machine at the end of last year. I don't use a sewing machine often, but I needed to upgrade and assumed that this machine would be suitable for my purposes. This past week, a project came up that required some sewing and I was excited to finally put my machine to use. Literally the first time I went to fill the bobbin, a plastic piece inside the machine broke. I was forced to rig the bobbin to my electric drill just to get through the job. Now, when I go to look up the warranty, I discover that it's only good for 90 days on mechanical parts. This brand new machine that I've used exactly once has already broken and apparently, if I want to even bother to fix it, I'm on my own. Is this what Singer has come to? I always considered Singer to be a trusted brand that builds quality sewing machines, but if this is what I can expect, then this will be the last machine I buy from them.
