Horribly Disappointed in Singer

During the machine's first hour of use (sewing light-weight fabric), the thread tangled and jammed so often, it became unusable. I decided against sending the machine to a Singer Service Center because the cost to ship was high and the estimated time the machine would be outside of my possession was a couple weeks. Instead I took the machine to a repair shop across the street. This veteran sewing machine shopkeep identified the timing was horribly off. Oddly, he wasn't all that surprised I had encountered such a problem so early in my use of the machine. That should have been a clear warning sign. The next few garments I sewed without incident. But as I approached (what I estimate to be) the 10th hour or so of total use, I began to notice the feed dogs were not advancing the fabric. I, once again, traipsed across the street to allow my local repairman to assess the broken machine. He ascertained quickly one of the gears that controls the feed dogs had worn out. Needless to say, I did not invest any more money on this lemon. I submitted a request via email to Singer customer service for a replacement machine. I have not received a response; 4 weeks have already passed.

A Great Back Up Sewing Machine!

Back 2 Basics with this machine. Features are basic and for me it's not complicated at all. This makes a great back up sewing machine especially when your sewing machine (the 1 that is used often) is in the shop for service / repairs.

I have been sewing over 50 years and this is the worst machine I have very owned. Tension problems from the very beginning and poor light position. Poor quality machine. I am very disappointed with Singer. Do not bother to bring this machine home.

Heavy Duty 4423 Review

I didn't realize how "heavy-duty" this machine was until I saw a few videos on Youtube. I'm so glad I purchased this machine now that I know all of the details. Yes, I could have read the manual, but to see this machine in action was a treat. I don't know that I'll actually sew threw several layer of leather, or sew through a wooden yard stick, but I know I'll be doing some levi hemming in the near future. I love this machine!

I bought this machine a year ago after my old singer of over 20 years gave out. I bought this machine based on customer reviews needing a machine that can not only sew apparel well but can also handle heavy interior and upholstrey weight fabrics and thicknesses because I sew for an interior designer. I have to say I have been nothing but dissapointed in this machine. I have had significant trouble with the mechanical workings and have had to have it worked on 3 times already in 1 year. Just today it has quit advancing the fabric and it will have to be worked on again. Also the needle has trouble penetrating through 5-6 layer thick interior weight fabrics and yes I am using the best needles I can buy.I do not recommend this machine and wish I had returned it as soon as I had bought it.

Excellent machine!

I received my machine about a month ago, and have been using it off and on since for several diffent projects. I am a basic operator, out of practice and behind the times. The manual makes set up and usage easy. The machine has plenty of power and is user friendly. Changing feet and using the needle threader take a little getting used to, but that was the inexperience of the operator, not the difficulty of the machine. I have had no problems with it yet, and am very pleased with the performance. Excellent value for the money!

Please know that I am an experienced seamstress, having sewn for multiple decades. I wanted and expected to love this Singer 4423 Sewing machine. Unfortunately, I have learned two very valuable lessons. #1 - do not buy Singer and #2 - immediately and thoroughly test & use any purchased item. Mistake #1: Believing that the Singer brand equates with quality. This 4423 machine was made in Vietnam. I honestly thought, prior to now, that purchasing an established Name brand such as Singer would be a smart move. Currently, I believe Singer has sold the name to inferior product-manufacturing locations. Quality and durability are no longer part of this brand and customer service does not exist. The manual is poorly written and in several instances, inaccurate. Someone who actually sews should do the writing and editing of any sewing manual! Mistake #2 - not thoroughly testing the machine within the 30 day warranty period. So this weekend I opened and started using the machine. I read every word in the manual and watched all of the introductory Singer videos on YouTube (they are quite good, actually); so I felt well prepared. Sadly, the machine will not sew. Thread breaks after just two or three stitches, needle threader never worked, and now, after just two painful loud clanking seams in cotton fabric, the sewing mechanism is frozen. I re-studied all of the trouble shooting ideas online and in the manual and then, finally, gave up. Today I called the Singer customer service. They will NOT help me other than to inform me that the warranty has expired and my best option is to have the machine professionally serviced, at my expense. I am the owner of a new but broken machine.
