When I first tried to use new machine, it would not pick up the bobbin thread at all. I could tell that the timing was off on this machine. I called the customer service many times with no answer. I tried their chat help line which only tried to charge me for an answer. Absolutely ridiculous!! I finally u tubed how to fix the timing and fixed it myself. The point is that you should never have to worry about having to fix a brand new machine. I am fairly pleases with how this machine works now No Thanks To Singer!
I use it for general sewing needs. Right now I'm making masks. The take up lever loses the thread a lot. I have to look Everytime I start a run. I have to pull a longer than normal amount of thread past the foot or it will come out of the needle. I hate to say it but with those to issues it's enough to drive me batty. I can't wait to get my older singer sewing machine fixed.

I bought the 4423 Heavy Duty about two months ago because I needed a machine that could handle several layers or heavy fabric. I read a lot of online reviews, many of which were negative. I havent' experienced any of the problems listed in those reviews. For instance, one person said it was the loudest machine they've ever heard. This machine is not loud! It has been running smoothly and handling the heavy fabric with ease. I like the style of the machine, and it stores away nicely in my small apartment. I would recommend this machine without hesitation. For the price, it's an very good value.

Quiet and powerful

The first machine I bought was a dud - difficult & noisy sewing and constant knotting thread and bunching fabric. After some troubleshooting with Singer, I was advised to send the machine back and a new one was sent to me. WOW, what a difference! The new machine sews beautifully and easily and is quiet, too! I absolutely love it. I cannot recommend the 4423 enough. I do fairly basic sewing - upholstery, curtains, backpacks etc - and this machine fits all my needs.
I've been using my 30+year old Singer for occasional, light sewing projects over the last few years, but making masks with pleats was really hard on it. I tried finding a new, reasonably priced new machine for my home sewing projects, but nobody had any available, until I just went to Singer.com and found the #1 rated home machine! The price was as good or better than the big box stores, but they didn't even have any in stock, and it arrived at my door within a week of my order. I am churning out masks for friends and family members, and have renewed interest in other sewing projects that I haven't really done in a while. It's not a fancy machine with hundreds of stitches, but who needs that - not me.

I got a heavy duty machine so that I could sew through bike inner tubes. This machine handles that fairly well, in addition to being able to handle lighter work. Since I've had it, I've made pants, a shirt, curtains, and numerous wallets and bags out of rubber. It's a pretty sturdy machine, and I especially like how easily it does buttonholes. It is a heavy duty machine, but I have already had to reset the timing twice. I suppose that if it didn't have steel parts it might have just broke. But still, this seems like a major flaw. If I couldn't fix this on my own, and had to take it in, I'd probably already have spent as much as the machine cost on repairs already. Not to mention the time it would have taken. The first time it happened was two days after I got it.

I've had this sewing machine for about a year now and love it. It's so easy to sew button holes, and buttons with. I used it to sew seatbelts for a project. I did have an issue with the thread breaking, but then realized that I had missed one of the threading points. Once I had the thread on properly, there were no more issues. This sewing machine is compact, so you can just pack it up and take it with you. I've used most every feature and have used everything from heavy duty to light weight thread, and am learning how to set the tension for each type. I'm still learning what all the sewing patterns do, I wish they would have done more of a description for those in the users manual.
