Very Happy!

I bought the 4423 Heavy Duty about two months ago because I needed a machine that could handle several layers or heavy fabric. I read a lot of online reviews, many of which were negative. I havent' experienced any of the problems listed in those reviews. For instance, one person said it was the loudest machine they've ever heard. This machine is not loud! It has been running smoothly and handling the heavy fabric with ease. I like the style of the machine, and it stores away nicely in my small apartment. I would recommend this machine without hesitation. For the price, it's an very good value.

Mediocre, far from Heavy duty.
As an experienced seamstress, I find this machine extremely mediocre.
First of all horizontal bobbins are the worse and not long-lasting.
Other their internal metal case, the rest of the machine is made with cheap materials all plastic.
The light is THE WORSE I have seen in my entire seeing life, there are internal main pieces that in any machine would be metal and are plastic in this one.
It's very noisy even after oiling it and any machine comes with a hard case but this one came with a cheap fabric cover.
The backstitch button is in a totally unpractical place and will advise being VERY gentle with the 2 wheels on the front (to change stitches and length) because I am sure they will break in a few months.
My friend lends me her brand new for me to see if I would get it.
Definitely no!And this is not a beginner's friendly machine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quiet and powerful

The first machine I bought was a dud - difficult & noisy sewing and constant knotting thread and bunching fabric. After some troubleshooting with Singer, I was advised to send the machine back and a new one was sent to me. WOW, what a difference! The new machine sews beautifully and easily and is quiet, too! I absolutely love it. I cannot recommend the 4423 enough. I do fairly basic sewing - upholstery, curtains, backpacks etc - and this machine fits all my needs.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have 3 other machines all very expensive. This one is simple and for straight up sewing this is the best. Just open the box, plug it in and sew!! It is well made and heavy duty. Snap on presser feet that are inexpensive work great. Very happy with it is machine!!

I've been using my 30+year old Singer for occasional, light sewing projects over the last few years, but making masks with pleats was really hard on it. I tried finding a new, reasonably priced new machine for my home sewing projects, but nobody had any available, until I just went to Singer.com and found the #1 rated home machine! The price was as good or better than the big box stores, but they didn't even have any in stock, and it arrived at my door within a week of my order. I am churning out masks for friends and family members, and have renewed interest in other sewing projects that I haven't really done in a while. It's not a fancy machine with hundreds of stitches, but who needs that - not me.

I got a heavy duty machine so that I could sew through bike inner tubes. This machine handles that fairly well, in addition to being able to handle lighter work. Since I've had it, I've made pants, a shirt, curtains, and numerous wallets and bags out of rubber. It's a pretty sturdy machine, and I especially like how easily it does buttonholes. It is a heavy duty machine, but I have already had to reset the timing twice. I suppose that if it didn't have steel parts it might have just broke. But still, this seems like a major flaw. If I couldn't fix this on my own, and had to take it in, I'd probably already have spent as much as the machine cost on repairs already. Not to mention the time it would have taken. The first time it happened was two days after I got it.

Love It!

I've had this sewing machine for about a year now and love it. It's so easy to sew button holes, and buttons with. I used it to sew seatbelts for a project. I did have an issue with the thread breaking, but then realized that I had missed one of the threading points. Once I had the thread on properly, there were no more issues. This sewing machine is compact, so you can just pack it up and take it with you. I've used most every feature and have used everything from heavy duty to light weight thread, and am learning how to set the tension for each type. I'm still learning what all the sewing patterns do, I wish they would have done more of a description for those in the users manual.

Very sturdy sewing machine, for light and heavy duty sewing. Very easy to thread and make a bobbin. I bought it to replace my very long lasting beautiful Singer sewing machine which was manufactured in the 1960's, and that finally unfortunately lost its gears. I miss the knee control for the motor (using a foot pedal takes practice,) the reverse that could be on/off without holding the switch, and the step-by-step up/down control of the feed dog. But this machine can handle materials and variable thickness much better than my old machine, and has indeed 23 kinds of zigzags and blind hem stitches that I can use often.
I would recommend this to a friend!
