I chose the 4423 because of its heavy duty construction. I make shoulder bags which have many thickness to be sewed together. The sewing arm was a surprise but a welcomed addition as I do a lot circular sewing. The auto needle threader was a gift from heaven. The brand name and warranty are all added pluses.

I've used up 2 machines in the past 20 yrs, and this year I received a Singer 4423 (my first Singer) for my birthday! Love it, just took a little getting use to the differences. I love that it is simple and easy to use, but would love an automatic needle down/up option. It is a little noisier than my other machines (Kenmore and Brother), but that's just me. The fact that it is heavy duty was a plus for me - I sew constantly! So far it has handle every project that I've thrown at it!

I am a crafter that has recently been invited to be part of several craft fairs because I up-cycle items. I already have a Singer sewing machine but needed something with a little more power to work some of the materials I use and that it does. It is truly making so many of my projects so much easier and faster to make.

I have put this product through the rest by making a quilt. I did not want to let this just sit around. It lives up to its description this far. As I am still making blocks (4 left to do). But right now I am enjoying this machine.

Learned a lesson.

As an experienced seamstress for 40+ years, I learned not to buy without physically seeing and 'test driving' a new machine. While this machine has great built-in features that are fairly easy to use, ( I had to get better instructions from the internet to use the buttonholer), I would not recommend this to anyone. The Boxy style of the machine makes changing a needle very frustrating as you cannot see to hold the needle when inserting it into the proper place. The needle is hardly visible, so the needle threader is handy but not easy to work. I patch and mend jeans frequently and do not use this machine at all for that. I tried, but again because of the boxy design I could not see the inside of the leg or the patch itself to stitch down. And where are the instructions/diagram for lubricating this machine? I have sewn on and owned Singer machines for years, but I am very disappointed in this model.
