Nice Heavy Duty Machine

I bought this to replace the 45 year old Husqvarna Viking I learned to sew on as a child - a very basic, sensible, no-frills workhorse. I was looking for something similar, something that would allow me to sew just about anything, but didn't have a lot of frills, and didn't cost a fortune. This machine has been great! I have been making guinea pig fleece bedding pieces, using up to 4 layers of fleece at a time, and it has sewn with absolutely no problems. I really like the see-through bobbin area - it makes it so much easier to gauge the amount left and to stop without running out! I haven't quite mastered the automatic needle threader, but I've only had the machine a week, so I'm sure I'll get it figured out. Very happy with my purchase!

I really liked my Singer right out of the box, but then I had a problem. My bobbin would not work right, so I took it to my local shop. The repairman found the problem corrected it and I picked up my Singer later that day, it was only a week old so it was covered under the warranty. The hole where the needle goes down into the bobbin area is to small, I was bending or breaking my needles. I made the hole a little larger and have had no more problems. I removed the snaps off 6 racing shirts and replaced them with Velcro, my singer did a great job. I was a little unhappy at first, now that the problems have been repaired, I love my singer it does what I want it to, with no more problems. I think Singer should give each purchaser a class on how to operate there machine before they leave the store with it. Show them and explain to them the basics of how its features work, what to do and what not to do.

I have had this machine for awhile but just started to use it. I like the fact it sews through many layers, as I use on jeans a lot. My only complaint is that it is very noisy. It seems to thud very loudly.

Singer 4423-Best Home Machine I've Used

I'm age 75 and worked in a factory sewing pants for the military. I purchased the Singer 4423 from Amazon, as it appeared to be the fastest home sewing machine I could afford to buy. I received it September 10th, but didn't get the chance to really check it out until the 13th. I used a yard of tapestry material I had in a storage box. This material was not yet stiffened and blocked. I put this machine through a rigorous test on all the stitches, running it at the fastest speed. It sewed perfectly, never slipped a stitch, never bird-nested the thread or broke the thread. EVERY feature on this machine worked just like it is advertised. After testing the stitches, I folded the fabric over and over to create 16 layers. It sewed through that thickness like it was 1 layer of light weight cotton. At my age, I really LOVE the top bobbin position AND the needle threader. Thank you Singer for these great features and a machine that most people can afford to buy.

I do basic rather simple sewing. I find this machine significantly more powerful, and significantly more controllable; and that is a very good combination. I believe what they say when they it is a workhorse that will last a long time. I also enjoy the 23 stitches; and for the sewing I now do I think they will be quite adequate. I prefer handling metal bobbins and think it would be an improvement if they could design this same kind of bobbin operation, only use metal bobbins. Metal bobbins do have holes in them so you can see how much thread is left. My last sewing machine also has a strong metal case, but not as strong a motor. And this much newer machine has new generations of making sewing easier. I think it is a good investment I couldn't resist.

I bought this machine as a present for my wife. She was thrilled with the machine and surprised with its features. She can now sew on jeans and heavy materials!

I chose the 4423 because of its heavy duty construction. I make shoulder bags which have many thickness to be sewed together. The sewing arm was a surprise but a welcomed addition as I do a lot circular sewing. The auto needle threader was a gift from heaven. The brand name and warranty are all added pluses.
