The first machine I received sewed about 5 straight seams and then the feed dogs went down and wouldn't come up. I called tech support and they walked me through. We got the dogs up but she mentioned that they had to be brought up by hand because the machine wasn't strong enough to just bring them up by themselves. That didn't sound good to me. However, even after all the work, it was decided that the machine was faulty and was returned and replaced. That process was good and prompt and so far the 2nd machine is working well. I've bound 2 quilts with it and have had no problem. The automatic needle threader seems to be more of a pain than a help, however. Most of the time I just thread it manually.
I am new to sewing and this machine is fantastic and easy to use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

i had the machine for less than a year and it worked through at least 8 projects... then the reverse button got stuck and it took 4 phone calls to fix and then while in the middle of a project it would not sew forward or backward. it continously got stuck i changed the thread, bobbin and needles and no luck... and i take to my repair man and he showed me 5 other machines with the same problems and it continues to occur... heavy duty seems to be a lie.. im very disappointed...

For the most part these are wonderful machines. I had purchased 6 for the sewing room at work. Three had to be returned to the store for various reasons. On two of them, the needle threaders didn't work. On the other one, the needle position was incorrect. It was too set too far forward and the needle was hitting the presser foot as it sewed and broke every needle until we figured out what the problem was. Of the remaining machines, two can no longer use the automatic needle threaders. For some reason they just don't work any more. I feel the "free-arm" for cuffs or other circular projects is too wide and doesn't accommodate use for smaller sized garments. The sewing bed is a bit shallow.
I love my singerI 4423. I am so happy with this sewing machine. I’ve had it for 4 months and I am pleased with this purchase. It’s definitely heavy duty. It’s not noisy and it can handle anything. I sew dog dresses and girls toddler dresses and this machine makes sewing a smooth experience. I’ve even sewn leather on this machine. I recommend the singer 4423.
When I first tried to use new machine, it would not pick up the bobbin thread at all. I could tell that the timing was off on this machine. I called the customer service many times with no answer. I tried their chat help line which only tried to charge me for an answer. Absolutely ridiculous!! I finally u tubed how to fix the timing and fixed it myself. The point is that you should never have to worry about having to fix a brand new machine. I am fairly pleases with how this machine works now No Thanks To Singer!
I use it for general sewing needs. Right now I'm making masks. The take up lever loses the thread a lot. I have to look Everytime I start a run. I have to pull a longer than normal amount of thread past the foot or it will come out of the needle. I hate to say it but with those to issues it's enough to drive me batty. I can't wait to get my older singer sewing machine fixed.
