Flying or Freezing
on November 27, 2011
Posted by: rk20131
The Phone freezes locks up and goes into airplane mode without warning. Have to restart the phone to get it out of airplane mode. Battery life very strange, sometimes it will go for a couple days on a charge. Then it will sometimes go from fully charged to no charge in a couple of hours without even using the phone. It has caused me to be sure to replace with a different brand even though this is my third Samsung phone. I will not buy another Samsung phone.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

In general, just a very poor phone. Performance was laughable, seized frequently, restarted constantly, and had to be restored back to factory on an almost weekly basis. I have never been so frustrated with a phone before.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Spare yourself the headache

When I went to buy my first smart phone, I was enthusiastic about the Intercept because it provided all of the features I wanted (Android OS, touch screen) at a low cost. I didn't expect high performance, but what I received in this phone made me wish I'd stuck to my previous basic pay-as-you go cell phone. The hardware is too poor to support even it's basic text and phone operations; I've had it freeze while trying to place texts and make calls. Using the internet or googlemaps is excruciatingly slow, and the vast majority of apps I've downloaded have run too slowly to function as intended. I've had it almost two years now, and find it to be one of the most frustrating devices I've ever owned. It has frequently taken more than 5 minutes after pressing "Call" to dial a number. The battery no longer charges correctly. To sum it up, even at the bottom of the smart phone price range, this phone is a terrible value.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, freezes, slow
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After having 3 of these in 5 months, I have switched to a different model completely. All 3 of the phones had the same issues. 1) Even with the sensor blacked out, my face constantly pushed buttons during calls, sometimes starting videos or having 50+ numbers dialed on the dialpad during the call. 2) The text messages were in chronological order, beginning with the most recent. More than half the time, when I click on a text window, it pulls up a window from the day prior instead. It wasn't even the window directly above or below the one that I wanted, so it wasn't user error. I cannot tell you how many texts were sent to the wrong person due to this. 3) Calls would be dropped with a message saying signal was lost, even though I was showing 4 bars 4) Pictures that were deleted would still show up occasionally, and pictures that were taken sometimes didn't show up in the gallery for days. 5) Sometimes would go into airplane mode on it's own accord, including while tech support was running a diagnostic test on it. 6) The buttons to slide to unlock the phone and answer the phone sometimes didn't recognize that I was even touching the screen, so calls would be missed even though I was trying to answer them.
Not enough memory is available on this phone.
Pros: Inexpensive, touch screen & qwerty keyboard
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, battery life is low, requires battery pulls as with a blackberry, start up takes several minutes, volume on speakerphone calls is too low
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Absolutely the worst phone I have ever owned. It must be turned off and back on at least once a day, as it gets hung. I love the design and the slide out keyboard, but it performs poorly.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is the worst phone Ive had by far. Dropped calls, frozen touchscreen, always data roaming even though im in a place that has service. Doesnt send text messages, takes an hour to load my facebook page, turns off by itself.I dont know if it was just poor planning or if it was just to be funny, but this phone is horrid. Cant wait for my upgrade!!!
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Too big, Did not meet expectations, slow, freezes, dropped cals
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Intercept I've used is registered with Virgin Mobile.
If you found this review the Intercept probably isn't for you. If you've got a family member new to technology, and want a cheap entry device, the Intercept is probably what you're looking for.
The single most annoying feature is the "Battery Full" alarm. It outranks things like slow performance because it was completely avoidable. Some dev, somewhere, decided it was a good idea to sound an alert when the battery is charged. And keep sounding it until the phone is unplugged. They also thought the idea was flawless, so they didn't include a way to disable it. And you'll be hearing it a lot, because battery life on the Intercept is on the range of 5 hours with light to moderate usage. If you want to charge your phone in the same room you sleep in, while you sleep, the Intercept is not for you.
The phone is pretty slow. Slow responses make you think the phone didn't read your entry - lag, if you will. It feels underpowered, but it shouldn't. It's got an 800Mhz processor and 256MB RAM, it should be faster than my G1, but it's not even close. Everything takes forever to load, turning it on takes more than 60 seconds. If you're looking for a powerful Android experience, the Intercept is not for you.
Even though it's not directly controlled by Samsung, I have concerns about the software Virgin Mobile preloaded. I think it's relevant, as my phone was delivered with this software. Search the Android Market for Downloads by Virgin Mobile. It's security permissions don't match the description, and give it abilities like changing the APN, and rewriting owner data. If security is paramount, I doubt you'll like sneaky preloaded apps.
The Captivate caught my attention for the hardware keyboard, but it's flaws are too much for me to tolerate. I can, however, see how it would be great for someone who doesn't know better. Children and grandparents come to mind.
Pros: qwerty keyboard
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, battery full alarm, underpowered
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
