Great sound, poor build quality

I have owned these headphones for just over a year, and they broke at the hinge. Apparently, this is a common problem. I am careful with my stuff, and the break happened when I put on my headphones. I'm still baffled at how it happened. Alas, they're garbage now.
The sound and comfort though, wow. It is so good that I am actually contemplating shelling out $500 again, even though they only lasted a year.

Decent set of cans

Noise cancellation is fantastic and sound is a solid 8/10.
It received 3/5 because it is definitely not designed for travel or fitness and you’d think for the money it would come with a charging cord.
All in all great for sitting and listening to music or video.

TLDR: Decent when working, right ear failed twice.

Here's my review: 1 star for great sound, 1 star for pretty decent ANC — I'm not a big fan of how it auto-optimizes to your environment. Sometimes you want QUIET, and it just doesn't do quiet like the XM3 or XM4's, you can't have ultra quiet noise cancelling without the headphones constantly turning it down when it thinks your environment doesn't need it.
2 Stars, the other 3 stars are lost to my 2 pairs of XM5's I've gone through. I wear these headphones quite often, most of the work day, very gentle with them but after about 9-10 months of use, the right ear completely quits. No fix. Sony said they will replace them IF (if) they're under warranty, and I keep seeing comments pop up about this issue too. So, without too much fuss and a tiny bit of hassle, Sony decided I was in need of a replacement. So off they went, and in they came, they worked as they should. Awesome! About a year and one week the same thing happened, right ear borked, completely dead. I asked a rep about it again and they said there's nothing they can do, besides refer me to a third party company to fix it because this replacement pair is still going by the warranty of the first pair.
GGs Sony, I still really like these, but it's the trust issues that are keeping me from buying another pair. I don't think I can comfortably own another pair without thinking when the little timer on that right ear cup is about to go off and stop working.
I love these headphones but if anyone relies on these on a day to day basis, keep in mind the right ear is prone to failure randomly no matter how well you take care of these headphones. Just look it up, and you'll see quite a few comments about this issue. Hope this helps people on their quest for good headphones!

Broke within 5 months

Really bad build quality. Right ear cup was developing a cracking noise 4 months in, and the hinge on the same ear broke soon after i was just adjusting it onto my head.
Been a long time Sony headphone user since I was 15. Talked to sony about their warranty, and they didn’t offer any service for this, and the hinge design flaw is a well known issue between their high end headphones . Had to use my Best Buy warranty up to replace it. Really disappointing .

Creaky Headphones

Had these for about 9 months. Sound ok, mic is good when on the phone.
However, has developed a popping/creaking noise in the left ear phone whenever you move your head. To the point don't like using the headphones. Tried to get Sony to fix them with no success. Expensive mistake, will upgrade to Bose when they come on sale next.

had just over a year and already issues

I want to start with the positives which is the sound quality. It was really clear and didnt hurt the ears . Now for reverence most of the time the volume i used was around 20-25% as i usually watch videos and such. but the other 40% i would play music around 55-65% and the speakers on the right side are already starting to freak out on bass sounds. Only had for just over a year. I would hope that it would have lasted way longer then that. I mean they are really good just need to last longer.

Great ANC, decent to good sound, bad build quality

As the title of this review indicates, everything is great at best and fine at worst, apart from the terrible build quality of these headphones, which almost ruins an otherwise near-perfect commuter headphone.

Handle broke

I had my last sony headphone for over 5 years. Lastly it started to make noises and I decided to change and bought this last year. And in a year the handle connecting the headpiece to the overear piece broke. No pressure on it just turning it as it supposed to work. Very disappointed as it just passed its 1 year warranty and now the headphone is useless.
