Great sound, weak mechanical design, bad warranty

The XM5 sound amazing and good microphone quality. I have had these headphones since launch, so for 8 months. I have loved them for 8 months. I take them off with two hands, and always store them in its case. To my horror two days ago, I found that the ear cup connection to the headband has come apart. The plastic that surround the molded in or vibration welded fastener had split. Now my earcups do not stay in place.
I brought this to the attention of Sony warranty and they tell me because it is a physical defect and they can not confirm that it is from physical abuse, they will not warranty it. At my expense, I have to send it to their authorized service depot, and pay for it to get it repaired myself.
I was already wary about the plastic materials used for fear of its potential weakness in material. After 8 months, this confirmed my suspicion. If Best Buy could let me post pictures of the failure I would. It is appalling that this is how Sony supports one of its flagship products. I do not think I will buy a Sony product again. If you buy it, purchase an extended replacement warranty with it.
So buyer beware. I am no longer a fan of Sony products

Expensive but Seriously Lacking

Most expensive headphones I have ever bought. And will never ever buy sony headphones again. Two weeks of trouble shooting. These cannot be returned to best buy and the best Sony can do is replace them but the issues seem built into these headphones. The design and feel is great. The listening sound quality as well. But if you purchase these expensive headphones to do any serious work - like calling on phones or using in videochats then avoid them at all costs. They are NOT designed for this and sony and other reviewers should be honest about that. In two weeks of ownership every voice call the user on the other end complains of echo of their own voice. Have disabled all of the high end features of these expensive headsets and nothing helps. In video chats the headset works at first but then disconnects part way through and you can't get reconnected without completely rebooting the chat. You can connect these to the computer with a wired connection (included) and it works fine for listening but there is no in-line mic (not well advertised but these sony headphones don't allow wired connection with mic, which is shocking for the price). So my options are use my old bose headphones (which have always worked fine as bluetooth) or use these with a wire connection and a separate mic. None of this is what one should expect from VERY expensive headphones that are advertsized for voice and video calls as well as listening. Avoid these unless you have money to burn. Sony seems uninterested in the issue (and there are multiple threads online about this but one only finds those after one purchases and runs into problems).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Really looking forward to these. Mid range has great sound. Great for calls in terms of mic and audio.
Disconnecting randomly leaving me talking to myself on a call. Basically no low end even with bass booster turned up. It apparently won't charge when plugged into USB for power. Orange light is on but no charge going into it.
So so sad. Was really excited.

exceptional ANC, flawed design

ANC is pretty good. they are light but there is major design flow that made me return them.. the cups are shallow and my ears tough the inside. it gets pretty annoying after a while. for comparison, Bose has a much much deeper cups so your ears have room to breach.

The sound and features are great on these! Unfortunately, even when adjusted as small as possible, they were too large for me and didn't sit right on my head. I also have a sensitivity to some plastics, and these gave me a reaction, leading to painful blistering and dry itchy skin on my ears and sides of my face. That is more of a personal issue, though; just be aware if you're sensitive to those kinds of things!
I would recommend this to a friend!

They're good when used in travelling and also at the gym, just make sure that you don't heavily sweat on it when used while working out. It's also a bit loose and you'll hear some squeaky noise when walking but for the overall performance, it's worth the price.
I would recommend this to a friend!
