I will be contacting you regarding whether this product is defective or if it is supposed to function this way. The previous machine was able to remove all the air completely when sealing, but this product cannot remove more than 85% of the air no matter what. It seems that this machine is defective, and you should replace it with a new one.

I understand why you’re concerned — if your previous unit consistently removed all the air and this one stops around 85%, it’s absolutely reasonable to question whether something isn’t functioning as it should.
A few quick checks can sometimes help:
1. Make sure the bag is fully inside the vacuum channel: Even a slight misalignment can limit how much air is removed.
2. Check the gasket for gaps or debris: A loose or obstructed gasket can prevent a full vacuum.
3. Flatten the bag edge before sealing: Wrinkles can break the vacuum early.
4. Ensure the drip tray is fully seated: If it’s not locked in place, suction can weaken.
5. Try a different bag: Occasionally a bag with micro‑creases or damage won’t vacuum fully.
If you’ve tried these steps and the unit still won’t remove more than about 85% of the air, it may indeed indicate a performance issue.

After many years of faithful service, my FoodSaver gave up the ghost. When replacing it, I "thought" I was looking at another FoodSaver and erroneously bought another brand. After three months, I gave up with improper vacuuming problems. I'm back with the latest and greatest machine and will be more careful when I place my next order!

The list price was a little expensive so I waited until after Christmas and received a small discount off the list price. We had a FoodSaver for many years and it was beginning to miss sealing on some bags so we decided that now was the time to purchase a new one. Since I make a lot of stews and soups during the winter months, I was especially interested in this one with the Liquid sealer. We have used it already a few times and really like the ease in using it. I will be sealing some soup bags very soon. I would recommend this product.
