Tried two of this model, both are junk.

I'm on my second unit. The first stopped responding to button presses. This started about 4 months into using the unit. I returned it and got the same model again. This one lasted about 9 months, then stopped pulling vacuum. When it does pull vacuum, it will never stop and hold the vacuum. If you try to seal the bag, it will slowly start letting air back into the bag. I see no reason to get another version of this inferior product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this model a couple years ago after the one I had for years, stopped working. I am very unhappy with this model. Unless I am doing something wrong, the only way to vacuum seal is, if you slide the bag in and the machine senses the bag there. Then the option to vacuum lights up. The bags don’t always slide in evenly or they will bend, and if you try to lift the lid to straighten it out and put the lid back down, then the function to seal is the only one you have an option for. Lifting the lid and placing the bag in only gives you a seal option. So I am wasting bags trying to get a seal because it either won’t seal or it seals incompletely and I have to use a new bag. I also have to make the bags longer in order for them to seal. Older model was much better. New tech technologies is not always a good thing. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Buy the cheaper options

I cannot put into words how poor of a product this is. It’s like you took a tried and true technology and remarkably just made it worse. I was unfortunately gifted this absolute clunker of a product. Not only does it take up 3x the space as the original but it also manages to function terribly. You get the distinct privilege of using and buying food saver bags that rarely seal. With the vacuum seal chamber lifted off the ground you also get to conveniently hold everything you want to seal at exactly the correct height for a chance of sealing your bag. The extra fun part is waiting to see whether or not your bag is sealed or if it will slowly inflate. Even better you get the privilege of spending almost double what a normal vacuum sealer cost! Food Saver makes great products and I have used them for years and have returned to using my old Food Saver vacuum sealer. All in all I would rank this product “just worse”.

Wonderful automatic bag detection

We ordered our new Foodsaver because of its bag detection feature. Our previous Foodsaver forced you to hold your filled bag in place while depressed both ends of bag sealer activation control (very awkward). The sealing process on our new unit is much easier and quicker. To improve this model, a separate path for the bag cutoff/end sealer would be helpful so the bag roll end wouldn’t have to be pulled out of way before inserting the filled bag.

- Make sure the bag is fully inside the vacuum channel: If the edge isn’t placed deep enough, the unit won’t detect it properly.
- Flatten the bag edge: Wrinkles across the sealing strip can break the vacuum.
- Wipe the sealing area dry: Moisture can stop the lid from closing firmly.
- Ensure the drip tray is fully seated: If it’s slightly out of place, the vacuum won’t engage.
