Well I can honestly say if I would’ve never had one before I would not have a thing to say however, just does not function anything like the first one because the lid wouldn’t come down when you were occupying and putting stuff into the garbage can. This one has a mind of its own and is closing as I’m still trying to scrape a plate etc. etc.

Needs Refined

Advertised as smart sensor that only opens when it is supposed to. I found this not to be true. Opened every time I walked by and also found it difficult to keep the lid open when I wanted it too. Would be nice to have a button like some garbage cans have. Also, I placed the cab against my island counter on the side where the counter top only has the 1-2 inch overhang. If you place the cab against the counter with the lid at full open there is about 2-3 inches between the lid and the edge of the counter. However, when the lid opens it slings beyond the full open position momentarily from the momentum and smacks off the corner of the counter. After a week a permanent line began to develop on the lid of the can and was getting worse each time. I exchanged for a foot pedal operated can and am much happier.

Drove me insane!

The can itself is high quality and attractive, however the sensor element needs to be fixed if you put your trash can in a high traffic part of your household. Every time anyone walks by it, it opens. When one is holding garbage to actually put inside, it is much slower than just pressing on a pedal to open it. Sure this thing looks nice and high tech, but it was a major fail for me. Others may like it however . At least Simplehuman has a good return policy and credited me super fast. I’m not used to that by other companies. Way to go Simple human.

Great concept and loved our first one that I broke. But the lid on this new version closes way too soon and you have to step away and come back to get it to re-open.
