I bought this because I wanted to be able to prepare quick meals without having to clean up the entire stovetop. It takes about 7 minutes to get to the green light on setting 5; however, I can put a pan of water on within a minute of turning on the unit on, and it begins to heat rapidly.
A word of caution: Once you turn off the unit, you should remove the pan or your food will continue to cook.

I bought the cast iron burner before Christmas. Our Le Creuset 3 quart French oven and small tagine fit perfectly on it. It is strong enough to support them. Both are very heavy and I had concerns about using them on a glass top stove. The burner is very easy to clean and store.

We bought one and liked it so well that we bought a second one. Between the two of them, and our counter-top oven, our propane range hardly gets used. It heats very quickly. It also takes a long time to cool down after it is shut off, which I don't know if it is a positive or a negative feature. It's sized right for a typical saucepan.
