I recently purchased this for doing cross stitch and was looking forward to the clamp to hold my piece. I have arthritis, and holding the hoop was difficult. But that clamp is impossible to open if you have arthritis. It should be redesigned to be a screw open and close with a good handle to turn. Like so many things, the design ignores a huge cross section of society
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Someone had to put this on for me. Clamp impossible for arthritic hands
I love this lamp and have used it for years. However I can’t figure out how to switch from a floor lamp to using the clamp. I’ve read the provided instructions (https://ottlite.com/cdn/shop/files/Instructions_K53CP3_K53CP3-SHPR_Instructions_24w_Ultimate_3-in-1.pdf?v=5109559762588347255) but it seems that once G is inserted into B — the pole — its there for life.
i have had this light and the magnify part broke of at the bottom right under the magify part and is not useable, that was why i purchased this floor lamp.such a dissapointment i have bought 3 ottlites.
I have been unable le to make full use of this product as it will not assemble correctly. I have followed step 6 of the Floor Use instructions to the letter. The "indent" is not wide enough for the inner "tab." They will not "couple" in any way. The "indent" is getting bent out of shape. Very dissatisfied. Have a clam light already, was looking, specifically, for a Floor lamp.
I loved the lamp for a while. It fits great in my space and the base is sturdy so it doesn't topple over easily if I need to adjust it. However, the plastic arms broke after a while and now the large light is not useable as a fold down task lamp. I thought, OK, I'll use the smaller lamp with the magnifier; it broke inside the base and now it flops around uncontrollably. For the price of this lamp the parts could be much sturdier.
Bought a year ago and after just one year, the magnifying light snapped off. The fittings on this are all plastic. I've had multiple Ott lights over the years, but these newer ones are no where near the quality of the originals. The warranty doesn't appear to cover breakage from normal use and it would cost me shipping and the warranty fee just to find out.
This is the second floor lamp style Ott Lamp we have purchased in a 12 month period. The first had a faulty design that resulted in the two pieces of a supplied pole failing time after time. Recently we purchased another that appeared to be better designed and constructed. NOT TRUE! ON first day, the illuminated magnifying glass broke away from its supporting member. Reason was total failure of "epoxy" between magnifying glass and arm. For the cost, Ott light needs to hire better designers and spend more time and money on field testing a design to make sure it will not fail right out of the box.
