Great for the price

I bought this when I saw the word 'Heavy Duty'. So, as soon as I got home I had to check it out. I was amazed how it took really thick layers and sewed with ease. I used thin material and tested it out too. It served my purpose really well, without any sqeek or sqeel. So far so good. Actually so far excellent. I wish singer would come up with a sturdy and convenient to use cover for its machines. Also, I have not found out how to clean this machine (especially when it gets too much lint). I owned a Kenmore for almost 40 years. It is a great machine and I can open up its sides and bottom (no screw drivers needed) to get to the moving parts and clean them occasionally. But this one I can't do it. There is also no indication if I need to oil this machine and where to pour the oil. If anyone can help me with this I appreciate it. I would like to maintain this machine for another 40 years; just like my Kenmore.

Straight Out of the Box

Straight out of the box it does not work. The feed dog does not work, the material does not move. I tried to adjust the presser foot and the feed dog level, nothing. Brand new machine that does not sew!!! Imagine that, I have a Futura II that my Mom purchased for me in jr high that is still working in great condition, I am so disappointed!

I'm extremely rough on sewing machines but this one went through four layers of pleather, two layers of velvet upholstery and two layers of satin all at the same time over and over again.

Great for a beginner!

I was learning to sew on my mother’s 70 year-old Singer (which still runs beautifully in its original cabinet). I had trouble understanding the attachments so was limited to straight stitch. That’s why I decided to see what a modern machine could do and order the 4423. I love everything about it - the automatic threader, see-through bobbin case, variety of stitches by turning the dial, etc. Very easy for a beginner to learn sewing.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not Happy!

So disappointed in this machine.
I bought this model full of hope but it failed after 3 months and again after 9 months. It was repaired under warranty both times but when it failed for the 3rd time it was replaced by the retailer.
2nd machine lasted a little longer and was repaired under warranty before failing again just after the warranty.
I would not recommend this machine to anybody.
So sad for the Singer name.

I bought this a month ago. I like the machine but I was hoping Heavy Duty meant it would sew over the thick seam of jeans I have to shorten. After breaking a needle, I just finished sewing it by hand.
Also, it would help very much to have the manual included. It’s much needed, but has been a hassle to try and get one online.

I am so upset with this machine I bought it before Christmas then had no time I am finally trying it and it is a total piece of garbage DID NOT COME with a manual so cheap Now it's to late to return it Buyer beware
