I'm new to sewing, and this machine was consistently recommended to me as beginner friendly model. I've used the machine for about a month now and I agree this is great a machine for beginner's. Everything is laid out in a way that’s easy to understand. I've been able to figure out how to sew multiple projects and fabrics.
This machine is a cheap piece of garbage. I purchased my Singer Heavy Duty 4432 machine at the end of last year. I don't use a sewing machine often, but I needed to upgrade and assumed that this machine would be suitable for my purposes. This past week, a project came up that required some sewing and I was excited to finally put my machine to use. Literally the first time I went to fill the bobbin, a plastic piece inside the machine broke. I was forced to rig the bobbin to my electric drill just to get through the job. Now, when I go to look up the warranty, I discover that it's only good for 90 days on mechanical parts. This brand new machine that I've used exactly once has already broken and apparently, if I want to even bother to fix it, I'm on my own. Is this what Singer has come to? I always considered Singer to be a trusted brand that builds quality sewing machines, but if this is what I can expect, then this will be the last machine I buy from them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this machine and it showed up broken, the bobbin threader was broken off, the bags containing the other items were open already. Did they send me a previously returned machine?

I bought this a month ago. I like the machine but I was hoping Heavy Duty meant it would sew over the thick seam of jeans I have to shorten. After breaking a needle, I just finished sewing it by hand. Also, it would help very much to have the manual included. It’s much needed, but has been a hassle to try and get one online.
Bought the exact model my sister-in-law has I thought it was all metal like hers but it’s plastic. Bought the hard shell case to protect it but it’s just an empty shell with NO protection for the machine at all! It just flopped around! Had to use packaging from the shipping to keep machine stable in the case so what’s the point
This is a great workhorse of a machine. I don’t need anything fancy, but I need heavy duty for some of the things that I do and this really fits the bill. you can always rely on singer to give you the best machine. I’ve only had the machine a little over a week and it’s already had an issue with the thread going around the bobbin. I was able to resolve it, but I don’t know how, This is the reason for only four stars.
I bought my Singer 4423 three years ago and absolutely love it. It's perfect for making clothes, furnishings and craft projects. The heavy duty aspect is there when you need it, but it also works fine for lightweight projects. Super versatile and easy to use. Extra accessories are reasonably priced. Highly recommended if you don't need lots of fancy stitches.
