I needed a new machine for straight and zig zag stitching options, as the straight stitch only that I have been using is over 60 years old. I love it, but need more options! This machine hit all the marks! The bonus box of various pressure feet sure sweetened the deal! Love my Singer machines!
I needed a machine that will sew through multiple layers of heavy fabric and this one does sew nice even stitches. However the bobbin winder doesn't work well at all. I had to physically turn the bobbin with my thumb to get any thread on it. I gave up and bought a separate Singer bobbin winder. On my (other brand) sewing machine I can keep sewing and it will fill bobbins at the same time but it wont handle this particular project.
I have been happy with my new machine- only thing that could improve is the glare from all the steel when threading the needle even when using the attached auto threader-
I have owned this machine for a few weeks. I am a beginner at sewing. I like the machine. It is easy to put thread on a bobbin. It is somewhat difficult to thread the bobbin correctly when putting it in the base. Is there an easier way that I don't know about? Used some Coats & Clark Outdoor Thread (very heavy) to sew a waterproof backed fabric through two layers of very thick border. Had to roll the wheel to start by hand. Very difficult puncture. Then foot pedal. Sewed the entire padded two layer border with no issues. Crooked as all get out (I told you I'm new) but that rascal is sewn-up. Seriously, that was a hard test. I give the machine 90 out of 100 for that performance.
Machine sews well but noisy. Visual of needle threading and thread guides just before the needle are difficult to see and hard to thread. Sewing for many years so I can deal with this but inconvenient. Limited presser feet and useful stitches. Throat plate markings are hard to find so I put a piece of blue masking tape to guide me.
