I bought the 4452 as a birthday present for a friend. Upon my enquiry, she informed me that she would rate the machine 5 stars, saying "It has a smooth stitch, and there has been no nesting from the first stitch." I have no idea what that means, but evidently that equates to a "two thumbs up" review!

Not so Heavy Duty

I purchased this machine to make pocketbooks and other heavy material items. First off after a few uses the machine began to act up and breaking needles - Well I soon discovered that the plate was bent down and the needle was hitting the plate and breaking. I got my handy dandy little hammer out and tapped the plate back into the original position. The same thing happened again several times after sewing heavy canvas material. Now that I have only been sewing thinner materials - the thread breaks and gets hung up around the inside of the machine somehow. This is the third Singer I have bought in the last several years but I assure you it will be the last. Both of the other machines have issues as well.

I purchased the heavy duty because I was beginning to sew again and my other 2 Singers were very old. The machine always has been touchy with bobbin, tension, top thread wadding up in bobbin area. Now I have tried to use it and it will not sew. Two stiches and it locks up, all tangled below. I have tried all tension settings, newly wound bobbin, rethreading both every time, etc. I am sick of it. It is not worth taking to repair because from the other reviews this is a flaw in the machine. Shameful to still be selling this model. No more Singers for me.

I received this as a gift and what a piece of junk. After using the machine ONE time, the automatic needle threader broke. Now I am not even two months in to using this machine and the foot pedal only goes on turbo speed, it no longer goes slowly when I apply a small amount of pressure. After the next piece malfunctions, I will switch to a competitors machine and never go back to singer. What a shame, they were always such a trusted brand. Not anymore
I replaced my nearly 40 year old Singer with this Heavy Duty Machine after reading many, many reviews. I’d been worried about some of the negative reviewers’ concerns but after using this machine regularly for the past month I feel that most of the concerns are probably due to inexperience. Just remember to read your manual, use the right needles and thread, change your needles regularly, adjust your tension as needed and from my experience you’ll find you e got yourself a reliable workhorse. My biggest complaint about this machine is the color. If they wanted to differentiate it from non-heavy duty machines by color, black would have been a better choice. This grey is so ugly.
