[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My family owns two of theses. They are deeply reliable and have all the functions a average sewer could want
This machine is living up to its "HEAVY DUTY" name!!! I made this review for 4 stars as I find the bobbin winding process strange and a challenge to do (this is not my first machine, my first machine was my mom's featherweight singer, but I also have a babylock and a Janome basic machines). Also the threading of the machine is odd & cumbersome and makes a mess of your sewing if off at all. The last step before threading the needle is cumbersome and challending to do.
But once it's setup it flies through my denim jacket!!!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good machine. I learned to sew on my mother's 1965 Elna. It basically did what this one does, except the Elna had a metal case, and a light that was good. The LED light on the Singer is a HUGUE step backwards. It may as well be off. You need another light in the room to be able to use the machine. Otherwise, it seems to do all I ask of it. Runs relatively smoothly, controls work as they are supposed to....

I bought this machine to hem jeans and sew some small upholstery items. I am so disappointed. It breaks jeans Needles left and right. It won't go through hardly any layers of denim. Very disappointed. It us not the heavy duty work horse I was hopping for. I have had the machine for a year and it only has about 4 or 5 hours on it. I brought it out again today to sew a denim project and I hot so frustrated that I put it back away. I am a avid seamstress and quilter for over 40 years. I have many machines, vikings, brother, baby lock, and Bernia. This singer is going away. So very disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My old Singer is 60+ years old and was a wedding gift from my mother. It served me well, but I wanted an upgrade with several options. I just finished recovering my sofa pillows (11). Singer Heavy Duty is great!
I bought a few weeks ago. I thought being HeavyDuty would do better. But bent 1 and broke a needle fixing the rolled edge of a bath towel. Won't do jeans well either
I have owned this machine for a few weeks. I am a beginner at sewing. I like the machine. It is easy to put thread on a bobbin. It is somewhat difficult to thread the bobbin correctly when putting it in the base. Is there an easier way that I don't know about? Used some Coats & Clark Outdoor Thread (very heavy) to sew a waterproof backed fabric through two layers of very thick border. Had to roll the wheel to start by hand. Very difficult puncture. Then foot pedal. Sewed the entire padded two layer border with no issues. Crooked as all get out (I told you I'm new) but that rascal is sewn-up. Seriously, that was a hard test. I give the machine 90 out of 100 for that performance.
