After using the same machine for over 40 years, it is going to take time to get acquainted with a new one! Old friends are hard to part with.
So far, I am liking the new 4452 singer. I am not a casual seamstress, I am serious and tackle big projects, I was in the middle of a project when my old reliable machine became terminally ill. Guess what! The Heavy Duty 4452 popped up in my email! Thank you Singer for coming to my rescue.

It's ok could be better

I upgraded from my old sewing machine that's a discounted brand. I wish the foot petal cord was longer it's very short on my workshop table so it hangs unfortunately. I didn't find any difference in heavy duty sewing comparing to my old machine I use to sew thick layers of fur and leather. I like the auto threader makes it easy to change needles. The storage is very small vs my old machine had a bigger compartment with a solid carrying case vs Singer only providing a dust cover. Quality of machine is low almost all plastic vs my old machine was mostly metal. I will keep searching for a machine that fits my needs.

Bought this to repair a zipper in my husband's Carhart Coveralls. Very heavy material! At the waist band it is about 4 times thick. This machine handled it like a dream! No problems at all. Zipper is fixed, and we live on a farm so there is always heavy tarps to fix. This is so nice! The best purchase for Christmas! Love it!

I like it, but the foot pedal is a little bit finicky. I find it difficult to get it to just sew slowly when I’m trying to sew around curves. Like I press down on the pedal very slowly to try to get it to go slowly but it just sits there whirring like it’s stuck until it suddenly takes off at a hundred miles an hour.

Beginner at sewing & so far love it! I had to watch a few YouTube videos to get it figured out since there were no free introductory classes available close by unfortunately. My machine was delivered a few days earlier than estimated which worked out perfectly right before Christmas!

Once you get over the hurdle of threading the bobbin and start sewing the machine functions well. it does lots of stitch types and sews through thick material and layers. (In the first month one #16 needle got bent.) The bobbin thread is difficult to feed through the guides and the thread is not easily picked up by the needle. Normal time to change the bobbin is about 30 minutes. (They make it look so easy on the videos but it's a mystery). It would be nice if the electric cords were longer.
