I purchased this machine a week ago and have been using it for making pocketbooks/purses. It is great on heavy and thick fabric. It has been a dream to use. However, the sewing machine foot is of very cheap quality. I have two other older Singer models that work great but don't handle very thick fabrics well. I also have three other brands of sewing machines and all of them have better feet then this one. I really would like to upgrade it. Since I've only been using it for a short time I hope it will last, but I must say the quality is not what Singer use to be.
I just got into sewing this summer. I was sharing my mom's Husqvarna from 1974 (which still runs amazingly), but with so many projects I decided I should buy my own. I am sewing clothes and a quilt currently, and I really just needed a straight stitch, zig zag, and a buttonhole. For my needs this machine is perfect! I have yet to try heavy fabrics, but it sews right over four layers of flannel easily! I was surprised by how useful the needle threader actually is, and the only extra thing I've bought so far is more bobbins. I've only had the machine for a month, but so far so good.
I bought this a month ago . I love it . I love that the buttons are basic only what is necessary and you don’t need a manual to figure out how to use it. .. and that it has the feature to help thread the needle !!( never had this feature in a machine and can’t live without it now . My son is redoing a motor home and I was able to reupholster all the cushions in it ! It was a breeze. It is powerful and never messed up once . Highly recommend this machine and is an excellent price point!! Also like that it is grey as the white ones tend to yellow after years .
I bought this for my husband, who makes quilts with me---we lost everything we had to a fire on July 24,2025, and this is our first purchase to start sewing again. He loves the machine, well worth the investment.
I use this machine for simple projects. It seems to work as a basic machine, but lacks some simple features such as auto-adjustment for material width that are standard on comparable machines. I sew elastic belts with sew-on velcro, and this machine does not handle them very well, skipping stitches and losing the bobbin at times. This is really disappointing as it is supposed to be a heavy duty machine. For the price, I wish I would have gotten a different machine might not have been 'heavy duty', but would have been easier for a novice sewer like myself.
I researched the best sewing machine that suites my needs.

I like it because it is heavy duty, easy threading (It shows in the machine where to thread it step by step; same with the bobbin) and the easy needle threading. The Singer sewing assistant helps but I prefer a live instruction like the one in You Tube by different sewers instead of just pictures of instructions. But prefer to get the live video instructions on different features and projects from the Singer Company itself. There should be more definite instructions on when to use the lowering feet at the back of the machine on definite kind of fabric (to state on what type of fabric) aside from quilting.
