So far a straight stitch is ok. I bought this singer 7/2018 My first singer I used for over 40 yrs. Had some minor repairs. The manual gives you little to no instructions it would be useless to a novice sewer. When I went to use buttonholer there wasn't one as there should have been. I was told to buy my own. '
