This is my second Singer (my first I bought in 1966) and I'm pleased with it. I made a small quilt as a "test" and it did a good job. The only thing I would like is to be able to select a wider stitch length for basting. My old machine would stitch 6 stitches per inch and that was very handy to have.
I needed a solid good sewing machine that could easily sew over pleats without problems. It is perfect!

Love it, but quality control a bit lacking

I love this machine. It feels solid, it can get through 12 total layers of topstitching when making masks (needs some manual help), I like the look, it's easy to use, and has all the standard controls (i.e. foot pressure, left-right needl position, etc). I recommend! However, I've got some cons that I think probably deserve some attention from Singer. Cons: Foot pedal was overly sensitive, in my opinion. I fixed that by opening the pedal and turning down the little potentiometer (with power off). The metal plate holding the light was loose. I tightened the screws. That also tightened up the end cap. Bobbin tension was about 30grams (using polyester dual duty "nothing special" white thread. Also tried black), resulting in me needing to use a top thread tension of about 8 or 9. I got a tension gauge, measured the bobin tension, and fixed it. I'm not using a top tension of about 6 to reach balance. I've got a 150g gauge on the way to check that, although I can't get the top off (hidden snaps?) to adjust the tension wheel adjustment screws. Foot pedal cable too short for a standing desk. I realize this is a relatively new phenomena, but it seems like the cord should be at least a bit longer. I fixed it by splicing in 16 gauge cable. The manual is missing (online only) and is missing quite a bit of maintenance detail. For example: No instructions at all for removing the bobbin case (critical for cleaning and adjusting the bobbin tension), or where to apply oil.
I use it to mend, and am currently making masks for the needy.

Needle threader doesnt work

I am very happy overall with the machine and the buttonholer is wonderful. However the self threader quit working after one week. I have tried to adjust the tiny wire and failed. This is the only option to correct the issue according to cutomer support. I have had two other very inexpensive machines with a threading devices that never failed over years of use.
I sew custom draperies, and some of the design are too delicate for my industrial machine, but this singer heavy duty machine is perfect for those type of project, I also do a lot of crafts that require a smaller but strong machine that this machine is perfect for that also. this was the best investment I have made in a long time.
Pros: Can Withstand Use, Easy To Use, Good Power Output, Mobile, Versatile, very user friendly and light weight
Easy to use, many functions that I've not yet explored. It is solid and can go fast. I would like the foot pedal to be a little heavier and the cord to be a little longer, but they work fine.
