Does not heat according to settings

I purchased this iron with the thought that it would heat like the old General Electric iron. In using it for pressing in sewing, it does not get hot enough and I have to sprinkle to press open seams. Sprinkling is not good for some fabrics.
My power cord connection became loose as happens often with irons. This product uses an unusual screw head making it not easily serviceable. This fix should have taken only 5 minutes of my time.
After trying many expensive irons, I was hoping to return to the basic iron of irons only to find that you have reduced it to an automatic shut off. This is such an inconvenient feature to a dressmaker who needs the iron to be on all the time. I don't know why the iron manufacturers think this is a good feature. At least give us to option to turn it off. Now I will have to look for another iron. I was so hoping to return to your basic wonderful iron.
