Great for packing away leftovers, plus seasonal fruits and veggies. Reliable, seals as expected and the zipper bag sealer was a real bonus. Using for herbs, sandwich meat and cheeses. The 4 star rating is because I don't really care for the latch feature. Will recommend and or gift without reservation.

I find this unit takes longer to seal. It also does not vacuum out air consistently. I wish that I had purchased a flat unit similar to the one thatt I replaced because the latch broke.

Disappointed in this new model. A lot of packages are not sealing the first time causing me to waste a lot of bags. The other day I sealed 8 packages, 2 of which did not seal and needed to be done over. Quality is not what it used to be when I got my first (of 5) FoodSaver sealers.

fantastic to secure dehydrated food +

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted the Foodsaver vacuum sealing system as a better way to get air tight containers for the produce I dehydrate every fall. I also found it fantastic for preserving meat for the freezer. Once I got use to using it, the system is so easy. Yet, I will say the first two times of trying to secure the handle into the locked position was difficult and had to push it hard. Another aspect I had some difficultly with until I figured it out was exacting where/how to seal the final end of the packaging. The instructions were too vague and it was trial and error until I figured the exact placement of the packaging material. I am perfectly happy with my Foodsaver vacuum sealing system.

Excellent New Design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've owned several models of Foodsaver products over the years. I vacuum seal the normal stuff, but also use the sealer for storing bulk herbs and spices and dehydrated foods. I do a lot of gardening and some mushroom hunting, so it definitely comes in handy. I've mostly used bags, but have lately started using the jar sealer functions. I really enjoy this feature a lot. I have a million jars in the house, and can reuse them almost indefinitely.
Anyhow, this model has been updated design-wise to feel more modern. The LED lights are bright white as opposed to the traditional green and red. The silver paint on the top portion of the unit is also a very new look. I like it overall. The vacuum sealer holds one roll of bag making material with a built in cutter. It's easy to use and keeps your vacuum seal bags with the machine. I don't have a lot of use for this as I have an entire drawer dedicated to bags and accessories, but I can see how it would be helpful. You take out the machine and the bags are right there. Convenient. I really like the new design of the locking mechanism on the side. The knob is attractive, intuitive and works well.
One thing that I had some trouble with at first was trying to use my old accessories with the new machine. None of them seemed to fit. Then it hit me. I have to use the NEW hose with them and not the old hoses. The new hose/sous vide bag sealer comes apart and you can use the top half to attach to the jar sealer mechanism. THEN it worked swimmingly.
I also have to say I don't really like how there isn't just a 'vacuum and no seal' function like there is on previous models. I feel like running the heat sealer all the time when sealing jars is wasteful and possibly damaging for the machine? I don't know. Maybe it doesn't matter at all.
I don't know if it's the difference between comparing a well used Foodsaver and a brand new one, but the vacuum pump on this unit is robust and quick. It works really well.
This sealer is intuitively easy to use and sleek and modern in design.

Amazing

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love my new FoodSaver VS2150 Vacuum Sealing System. When buying groceries and separating the meat I usually would use a zip lock bag. But now that I have the vacuum seal, I can package my food away without the worry of it getting frost bite. It's simple to set up and very interesting watching the air being taken out of the packaging.

Did not work out of the box

The unit would not pull a vacuum. The pump would run until it timed out but would not pull a vacuum sufficient to allow the unit to proceed to sealing. We tried several different Food Saver brand bags with the same result. We tried the spoon test as shown on You Tube and it would not pull a vacuum for that test either. All of this was immediately after removing new item from the box.
