Amazing Sound Experience

Rumbling lows, and crisp clear highs make all types of audio pop. Not to mention Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony!
Fill the house with music, an immersive movie experience, or lifelike gaming, take your pick, the Samsung HW-990D has you covered.

Immersive, powerful, deep sound

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first true foray into proper surround sound in a living room, and I'm extremely impressed.
First thing's first, to some, the inclusion of HDMI2.1 on the 990D (the 990C didn't have HMDI2. 1) may be a minor upgrade, but as someone excited to use this for gaming with console and PC at 120hz, 4k, and with the ability to push Dolby Atmos or DTX sound all at the same time, this was the perfect change.
Onto the day-to-day of using it. I've done everything from gaming, to watching movies with Dolby Atmos sound, and even listened to music and podcasts on it. There's a ton of power in this system, I'd be surprised to find any normal sized house where this thing at anywhere near it's max volume wouldn't be more than enough to have deep rumbling bass and room-filling sound.
The rear speakers have been a treat as well. They truly round out the experience as far as providing further directionality of where sounds are coming from. I've watched TV shows at 2am where there was a knock on the door, and honestly it jump scared me from how it genuinely sounded like someone was knocking at my door due to the surround sound.
Outside of all this, the SmartThings app makes it easy for me to adjust settings on the fly whether I want to use it late at night and only have the rear speakers on, or if I want to do something like use the Voice Boost feature to make spoken audio sound even clearer.
All in all, I'm extremely impressed with this soundbar system.

Specifically, this model has addressed one of the most significant issues faced by its predecessor, the Q990C, by featuring HDMI 2.1 passthrough, which has been a highly anticipated feature among users.
Though the design and specifications of the Q990D are similar to those of the Q990C, there are important differences that set it apart. For instance, it comes with a superior audio processor, a more efficient subwoofer, and an exceptional Dolby Atmos feature that creates a more immersive sound experience. Having used the soundbar myself, I can confidently say that it fills my living room with an intense, cohesive sound that is unmatched, particularly when I turn on the Space-Fit option via the app.
The Q990D rear speakers are of superior quality, with exceptional volume and sound quality. Even though I used them at the front due to space limitations, they still produced an impressive sound effect that surpassed my expectations. The Smartthings app makes it easy to adjust their positioning, providing a seamless user experience.

Compact design which delivers huge sound, crystal clear voices, and deep bass. All wireless connectivity, and Dolby Atmos. Upfiring rears bolster a truly immersive sound experience in your own home. Q-Synphony is the icing on the cake. This is one terrific sound system.

Absolutely Amazing

I was previously looking into the Q990C and the reviews were extremely positive. One of the major factors that sold me on the Q990D is the 4k 120 passthrough. I'm a gamer that values this feature tremendously. Even though I know I could connect directly to my TV, to have the flexibility and additional ports that supports this is a plus. Along with the sound upgrade, the choice was clear. The rear speakers are simply amazing. All the content I watch, just becomes even more elevated and extremely captivating. The Q990D packs a serious punch and I am here for it!!! It's a beast of a Soundbar!

Truly Atmospheric Surround Sound

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm always amazed at Samsung's ability to pack such a theater like experience in a single box. The HW-Q990D is no exception. I unboxed this soundbar and connected it to my Samsung QD-OLED TV expecting a traditional soundbar experience. I was not prepared for just how well Samsung managed to execute Dolby Atmos with this soundbar. The rear satellites feature a front firing, side firing and up firing speaker, which is enveloping as it is, but the speaker array on the soundbar itself makes it feel like there are sounds coming from virtually every angle of my room. My Samsung TV is actually Q-Symphony equipped as well, so it allows me to use the TV speakers with the soundbar for additional front channels. The subwoofer is loud, punchy, and deep. You can tell by the weight and heft of it that it will deliver that punch, and it does. This is hands down the best sounding soundbar I have ever used, and the setup and convenience make it the best audio system I've ever owned overall.
