Absolutely a game changer for my home theater

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I started my home theater journey with getting a 120 inch 4K projector and ALR wall screen and I thought that would be enough. And it was gorgeous... but I didn't have surround sound and my speakers didn't have that rumbling bass that you get in a theater. It just felt flat. Action scenes just didn't have "it" and it still didn't feel like a theater. And I was trying to recreate the full theater experience at home to enjoy ALL of my movies, shows, and video games like I was actually in a theater.
So I did a TON of research and since I wasn't in the market to run surround sound wires all over my living room and through the walls I decided on a wireless sound bar system. There are many out there but almost every review stated the Q990D was the best.
So I bit the bullet and was hoping it would get me closer to the theater experience. Well I was wrong. It wasn't close to a theater experience. IT WAS THE THEATER EXPERIENCE!
The surround sound is amazing and the bass is sooo powerful! I had to decide between putting the subwoofer behind the couch to right side, or in the front corner to the right of the screen. Behind the couch gave that seat shaking movie theater feel, but the front gave a much more powerful sounding bass and rumble so I went with that placement.
The app also lets you fine tune channels and settings which really helps with shows and movies with messed up voice volumes.
The picture is with the lights on so you can see the speaker placement.

Great sound and recommended upgrade

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Went from an older 3.1 setup (q60) to this and the sound quality is superb. Dialog was always quiet on my old soundbar, but much clearer to hear now. Rear speakers help enrich the audio experience a lot too!

The volume and clarity is key

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Switched from Sonos. The volume and clarity in the Q990D won me over. High ceilings and open layout make Atmos height difficult with any speaker but this comes the closest to giving me the feel. The open layout and large room gets filled nicely with the Q990D. I can hear the rears do their job and the center is clear and accurate. The bass, ohhhhh the bass, makes it feel like I’m in a theatre, clear and boomy, and I can “feel” it. Overall very good.

One of the best purchases of audio devices ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I paired the Samsung S990 soundbar with my S90D OLED TV, and together they’ve completely transformed my living room into a true home theater. The S990 delivers outstanding, room-filling sound with incredible clarity and depth. The Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony features make a huge difference — audio feels like it’s moving all around you, creating an immersive 3D effect that perfectly matches the stunning visuals of the S90D. Justs played a youtube video for Dolby Atmos testing and I am immediately in awe.
Music and movies sound equally impressive. Dialogue is crystal clear, even at low volume, while bass is rich and tight without overpowering other tones. Action scenes have real impact, yet quiet moments retain every subtle detail. The soundbar’s design is sleek and modern. Setup was simple, and wireless connectivity worked flawlessly right out of the box, no clutter with rear speakers or the sub. I did struggle a bit due to connecting to wrong HDMI port, but just a minor confusion, nothing big.
Combined with the S90D, the S990 makes every movie night feel cinematic. It’s powerful, refined, and easy to use — easily the best sound system I’ve owned. If you want theater-quality sound at home, this is the one to get.

The Q990D has been a delight

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I paired this up with my older Samsung QN90A 4K TV and a Panasonic DP-UB9000P1K 4K UHD Blu-ray Player. The combination makes for a really outstanding 4K UHD video watching experience.
The so-called "atmos bubble" really is a thing and is very apparent. The one unexpected benefit is the voice enhancement mode. It really makes a big difference in being able to hear the character dialog even in scenes that are audibly busy. It's not obvious, though, unless you turn off voice enhancement to see what it's been doing. It just does its job very well and in an unobtrusive manner.
The only nit to pick has to do with my Android streaming box, an NVidia Shield. I use that box for general streaming (youtube, amazon video, etc.). Every so often, when switching between apps on the shield, the Q990D will lose the audio data stream. Turning it off, then back on fixes the issue, but it is annoying. That being said, I can't say for sure that it's not the QN90A that's the problem...or some interaction between the two, so I can't really take a star from the Q990D.

Inferior Q-990D

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very disappointed with the Samsung Q-990D. I have to constantly disconnect the power and HDMI cable and reconnect in order to get the unit to function. Failures are no sound at all and constantly changing the output to TV speaker which is very annoying and frustrating.

Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. When the Soundbar is connected to the Internet, Auto Update allows software to update automatically even when the Soundbar is turned off. You can also update by using the SmartThings app.
If not connected to the internet, you can download it onto a USB device, and then upload it to your soundbar - no wireless connection required. Connect the USB drive that contains the update firmware to the SERVICE port of the Soundbar.
1.Go to the Samsung Electronics website (www.samsung.com) → click on the “Support” option in the upper left corner.
2.Click on “Manuals & Software” from the pop-up list > TVs & Home Theater > Home Theater > Select your model
2. Download the firmware file (USB type).
3. Unzip the file to create a folder with the file name.
4. Store the created folder in a USB and then connect it to the Soundbar.
5. A sequence of “UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON” will appear on the display 3 times. This will take around 6 minutes.
- During update, do not turn it off or remove the USB.
- If “UPDATE” does not appear on the display window, remove the power cord from the Soundbar and then reconnect it.
- When the latest version is installed, no update is performed.
- Depending on the USB type, update may not be supported.
6. After the 3 cycles are complete, the Soundbar will restart and last source used will appear on the display for about 20 seconds and then it will go off (“UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON”) 3 times “D.IN” > off
