Burners in wrong location

Replacing a Jenn-Aire coil top 30 inch downdraft. The two left hand burners do not get sucked down by the exhaust fan. A serviceman verified our complaint. He suggested to put the warmer element on the top left and replace it with the small dual element burner. Our smoke detector goes off when using either of the left two elements, even if it is just boiling water! Also, since our entire kitchen has white appliances, it would have been nice to get a white glass top to match, but it is not available in this color.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
