I had heard some enslaved before so when this came out I figured it was time to get on board. I was not expecting the song length, dynamic shifts and clean (nearly soft) vocals. For an extreme metal band from Norway it's just not what I expected.
Stumbled upon this from a recommendation from the black dahlia murder, amazing. Definitely the best black metal album of the year, perhaps the best overall. Very melancholy throughout with bursts of in your face black metal. Awesome song structure, such an interesting album to listen to. I'll definitely be buying their back catalog as well.
I had only heard of cancer bats and never heard any of their music until a year ago when I saw them open for another band I went to see. They killed it live and made me buy this album. Just a great album to drive to.
Byzantine back again with another great album, seems like more clean singing that's their last album which seems to break up the songs a bit but still awesome.
I was excited about the return of the original vocalist Johan Lindstrand, but overall wasn't that impressed. Still a good album just not what I hoped for.
