I bought this Onkyo to replace a Yamaha receiver I purchased a few years ago that unfortunately got zapped during Hurricane Matthew even though it was connected to a high end surge protector. There are a few things I have complaints about. Both the Yamaha and the Onkyo are capable of playing two zones simultaneously with each using different options of playback. The Yamaha remote controlled both Zone 1 and Zone 2. The Onkyo remote only controls Zone 1. Zone 2 has to be controlled on the receiver itself or through an app. Trying to control Zone 2 on the receiver is very tricky and somewhat confusing and frustrating. I gave up on it and only use the app. After setting up the ARC control it worked perfectly for a few days and then stopped. I went back through the setup again and once again the ARC worked properly but then stopped again after a few days. I gave up on that too. The most annoying thing is the blue screen. Several times I have powered on both the tv and the receiver ( I wouldn't have to do this if the ARC feature worked properly) and see nothing but a blank blue screen on my tv. To solve this problem I have to power down both the tv and the receiver, disconnect the HDMI cable and then reconnect it. This usually works but a couple times I have to disconnect and reconnect more than once. If you have an Apple computer anywhere close to this thing it automatically connects to it once your computer is awake. If I have the tv on and open up the web browser on the iMac the receiver disconnects from CBL/SAT and connects to the computer via bluetooth automatically. As far as sound and clarity I have no complaints but for the amount of money I spent I would expect something much better.
