A Long Awaited Return
on May 1, 2017

If you are expecting River Runs Red part 2, there's nothing to see here. This is a different kind of beast. However, it is still more than a triumphant return. A unique blend of hardcore metal instrumentation with newfound splashes of Alice in Chains and STP running through the vocals. This is nothing if not unique and spectacular. The two singles, Place Where There's No More Pain and Mad World are probably the catchiest tracks, if not the best (so check them out first to see how you're feeling about the CD), but there's plenty more here to dig into. The content matter is probably obvious if you have followed the group and their changes (and I do mean that respectfully) over the years. The band sounds tight, and while it won't be for everyone, the vocalist has never sounded better to my ears. Truly a great artisitic expression of suffering and pain, with ear scraping guitars in the background. A+

You Know What You're Getting

If you played the Wii U version, or really even the previous entry in the series on the Wii, you know what you're getting. It's a family friendly racing game with iconic characters. This version has upgraded visuals, which aren't that big of a deal to me personally with this style (i.e., Nintendo cartoonish) of visuals. It also has some additional modes. If you like Mario Kart, this is probably the most definitive modern version of the game (even if the original is still more iconic and better to me). It's definitely worth checking out.

Good Second Effort
on April 29, 2017

The lyrics are a little more mature, and the instrumentation is a little more involved. The second half of the album is stronger, as the first half seems like they are trying to be heavy for the sake of being heavy, and there are simply tons of bands that do that better. Lauren's vocals sound fantastic. If you got into the first album, you know what to expect: Machine Head-style nu-metal with mild black metal nuances throughout, and female death metal vocals that are above average. I don't know why I really like this band, but I do, and if you do to, this album won't disappoint you.

There isn't too much to say here. It's a gift card, and it works. It's a great idea for a gift if you don't know exactly what to get someone. Basically, you can't go wrong.

Maybe the Best Launch Game Ever
on April 29, 2017

I'm not generally a Zelda fan. That's not a knock on the series; it just has never been something I've been able to get into. This game is totally different. It's open world, expansive, and provides almost limitless gameplay. I haven't stopped playing it since the launch date. The amount of detail that was programmed into almost everything in the game is incredible. It runs well on both the Switch handheld and on the TV. I'm not the biggest fan of the control scheme, but there are options to change it (even if none of those options feel perfect). I don't want to spoil too much, but aside from Super Mario World, this is probably the best launch game I've ever played.

A Great Glass TV Stand
on December 6, 2016

My late mother had a TV stand just like this, and I really liked it. I was delighted to find this one at Best Buy. It holds up my 55" Sony just fine. It was easy to put together, and it seems like it is high quality. It should last a long time. There are two glass shelves that I use to hold my cable box, blu-ray player, and game system. My wife also covered the bottom shelf in decorations ... The shelves are open in the back, so nothing gets too hot. Basically, it's a nice and sturdy TV stand that does the job and looks really nice.

A Great Homage to the Original

I didn't know what to expect when Epic handed off the game to The Coalition, but I have been pleasantly surprised for the most part. Understand that I primarily play Gears for the campaign, as it is my wife's favorite game and something we can play together on the couch. Luckily, split-screen co-op returns. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll tread lightly. This is the story of Marcus Phoenix's son, and it feels incredibly familiar, but not in a bad way. Some old characters show up throughout the game, some new characters wind up being important in ways you might not have imagined, and the game itself plays just as you would expect. The campaign probably took me 10 hours to play through (though I did hunt for collectibles throughout) on normal (I'm playing through solo on insane now, and it is ... hard). Without spoiling anything, there isn't much to say about the campaign except that it feels like Gears, and it is an improvement upon Judgment. I'd still rank it behind the original trilogy, but it was fun. You should know that Horde mode is online only, so I've only checked it out during free play weekends (no, I don't use live since I am a solitary gamer for the most part). There are some changes, but overall, it seems like a slight inferior version of Gears 3 Horde. Versus brings back the COG/Horde battles from the first 3 games (even if it isn't really the COG or the Horde). Writing this review, I guess I find it hard to explain other than saying this game seems like an updated Gears game. It's just what you'd expect. Anyways, I hope this helps!

Not Quite a Classic, but a Contemporary Gem
on December 6, 2016

For those of you who think Metallica haven't done anything worth mentioning (except in a negative way at least) since "... And Justice for All," this isn't likely to change your mind. It's got some classic elements, sure, but a true throwback it is not. I found it to be more of a Black Album (think "The Struggle Within") and Load (think "Bleeding Me") hybrid. There are some thrashy moments, and even thrashy songs (e.g., "Spit out the Bone"), but it has a ton of groove and also seems like a hard rock album (albeit a very heavy hard rock album) at times. You've probably already heard "Hardwired," "Atlas Rise," and "Moth into the Flame." Those are standout tracks, but "Spit out the Bone" is probably the best song on the record. It's a modern-Metallica take on a song like "Damge, Inc." The second best track is probably "Lords of Summer" on disc 3, as it is very AJFA inspired. "Confusion" sounds like a modern-Metallica take on "Leper Messiah." Beyond that, there's a lot of mid-paced hard rock that brings back memories of Load. If that is a bad thing to you, you probably won't LOVE this album, but there is a bit of something for everyone. Just understand that when people hear galloping on the open E string and proclaim, "It sounds just like "Kill Em' All," time and nostalgia have a way of making things seem a little bit different than they really are. This is a very good album by a band that has been around almost 40 years. It's definitely worth checking out. Your opinion may be different from mine, but I'd say to check out some of the songs I mentioned, and if you feel the same way, right on! If not, other reviewers may very well be more helpful. I'd also add that the production is much better here than on Death Magnetic, so if that bothered you, be relieved. Anyways, horns up!

i want to be able to turn the tv on the stand. will the base that the tv sits on swivel? do I need to be concerned about the tv falling off of the base (kids will be viewing on the tv also).

I'll see if I can help, even if it looks like you asked this quite some time ago (Best Buy prompted me to answer). The base does NOT swivel. Also, your TV will only fall off of the base if someone runs into the TV quite hard. Think of it as if it were a TV sitting on a flat-topped coffee table. You can certainly knock it off, but not with normal use or bumping.
