Awesome performance for the price

Of course the number of players for 4K content at this point are somewhat limited (1 from Samsung, 1 From Sony, and 1 from Pioneer Elite), but that said, i am very impressed at the quality of the images, the HDR performance, and the familiar interactions to operate the unit.
This is a "Smart hub" device with a lot of imbedded applications, so you'll need a WiFi connection to utilize them, but they setup and operate very well.
Great value, and a great image!

Great transfer in 4K!

Having seen this as a blu-ray, i was hoping to see improvements, but it was like an entirely different movie! The 4K transfer is, of course, very impressive, but what really cinched the deal for me was the HDR makes the images look nearly 3 dimensional due to the extra shadow and highlight detail and very "theatrical feeling" in the viewing experience.

This is my 4th Lifx bulb purchase, and I am very pleased by the reliability and function of these LED bulbs. This is a "tunable white" bulb which is great if you want warmer light to feel more cozy, but want whiter light to read by or do crafts. The amazing part is that the amount of light doesn't change depending on the color like some other bulbs do. Connected with our Harmony remote and our Alexa without grief! I'm very pleased!

I have a 65 inch Samsung Ultra 4k 3d and bought the new Samsung k8500 Ultra Blu-ray player do I need to do anything else
If your set was purchased prior to 2015, you might need to purchase the One-connect Evolution kit (http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs-accessories/SEK-3500U/ZA?CID=AFL-hq-mul-0813-11000279) to make things fully compatible. As I understand it The One Connect Box makes older sets compatible with a range of UHD standards including HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and the VP9 and HEVC codecs. It sells for around $200, but at least you don't have to buy a new set.
If your set was purchased in 2015 0r later, it should be good to go.

does the Samsung UBD-K8500 enhance the picture of a regular blue ray movie or does it have to be a ultra 4k disc ?
It will enhance a conventional Blu-ray to a very respectable resolution. I have heard that there are mixed reviews for connection to the Sony Bravia sets with the upscaling ... something to do with the Bravia upscaler and the UBD-K8500 upscaler fighting each other. Makes ya wonder why they can't just play nice.

Does it have full 3d and why doest it say it on the discription
Yes it does play full 3-d movies in Blu-ray. I've got one, and tested it. I think it does reference 3-d Blu-ray in the owners manual under specifications, but they sure didn't make a big thing about it.

Is this a TRUE 4k dvd player, not an upscale model?
Yes. It plays 4K HDR 10-bit video. It will also upscale conventional Blu-ray disks, but it produces true 4K output.
At this time it does not support the new 12-bit format from Dolby, but that remains to be widely available anyway as no source material is available in 12-bit that doesn't come on a hard disk. (as of 4/29/16).

Do not buy this product due to no support of dolby altos?
At this point, (4/29/16) the only player that supports Dolby format (12 bit video) is the Pioneer Elite.(It is rumored to be firmware enable-able in the Sony player, but the Sony player doesn't play nice with non-sony tv's) The Pioneer Elite player is three times the price, so if price isn't a consideration...Then yep! Don't buy this player and buy the Pioneer.
P.S. They sell them at Magnolia TV and Stereo, a division of Best Buy also.

It WILL enhance a regular Blu-ray, but it will be somewhat less than 4K resolution of course.

HDMI UHD color working when using regular blu rays, but I lose picture when I play a 4k UHD disk. Any suggestions?
2 thoughts on this:
1) You of course must watch the 4K content on a SUHD (4K) tv, which I assume you are doing.
2) some manufacturers only have 1 4K HDMI compatible port. Perhaps that is the issue. If you are free to move the cables around, try another port. it might need to be enabled in the TV's settings.

Yes, it upscales content from Blu-Ray disks and frankly, they look pretty good. Keep in mind you have to view the content on a 4K TV (duh) to see the enhancements.
