Tom Baker is arguably the most beloved actor to play the role of Doctor Who. This release on Blu-ray of his complete first season is a must-have for fans. The video quality on Blu-ray of this old classic series is excellent. The 6 disc set also contains a plethora of special features on every disc, including previously released and all new special features. The episodes Ark in Space and Genesis of the Daleks also include 5.1 Surround Sound mixes in addition to the 2.0 "dual mono" stereo audio mixes for all episodes. This is a great set and I hope that they continue to restore and release more classic Doctor Who season sets on Blu-ray.

Supergirl, Girl of Steel in Steelbook!

For me, the second season of Supergirl was a bit uneven, but really picked up in the 2nd half of the season. The 1st half seemed to be turning into "millennial high school". Just as my interest started to fade, then in comes Teri Hatcher and Hercules himself -- Kevin Sorbo. It was nostalgic and fun to see these actors in new roles back on television. I also enjoy when Supergirl and the Flash get together and interact, such as in the crossover episodes.
Typically, I wait until "black Friday" to purchase the dvd version of TV series at a "realistic" price. But then Best Buy had to offer the Blu-ray with special Steelbook packaging. Although the cost was high, I decided to splurge and buy it based on the picture/image online for this item. The actual product did not disappoint. The artwork is very nice and high quality. Also inside - no overlapping discs! Finally multi-disc packaging where you can take out one disc/any disc without having to remove another one first (and then figure out what to do with it). I don't know if this special steelbook will justify the price for everyone (especially the typical binge watcher), but if you want to splurge and like to collect these, it is a well executed design and artwork for this steelbook.

Great show and value; poor packaging

Sliders was an excellent sci-fi show with an interesting premise for it's time -- parallel dimensions and universes. This enabled the show to be different every week, exploring different Earths and considering different underlying questions/concepts every week as the cast tried to get back to their Earth. I remember watching this show originally on broadcast TV for 3 seasons and then lost track of it, as the ratings slipped and it was picked up by "cable tv". Later, as dvds were originally released I purchased the first 3 seasons and then the 4th and 5th season releases seemed to "vaporize" and were not generally available in stores. So it was great to see this rerelease of the entire series on dvd. I will enjoy revisiting Sliders and seeing what I missed from the final season.
This dvd release of Sliders is a phenomenal value as you get the complete series for essentially the price of a single season release. However, there is a tradeoff in that the packaging is horrible. The cardboard slipcase is so thin that when you grab the package it bends and collapses. After removing the shrink wrap, be careful not to grab this box set from the top as you will see the cover slide (just like the Sliders) and all your discs fall on the floor. Due to the packaging, I rated this set at 4 stars instead of 5.

F8 - the fun continues

F8 of the Furious continues this long running franchise with more unbelievable stunts, driving, testosterone and humor. I think it's difficult to take these movies seriously anymore, so it is best if you just sit back and enjoy the show. The plot device of Dom (Vin Diesel) going "bad" and former friends and enemies working together to bring him back to "the family/team" may be obvious and unoriginal but it does provide an excuse for some humorous scenes with the Rock and Jason Statham and the rest of the fast and furious regulars. The cast seems to be getting bigger with every movie, although you gotta love Kurt Russell. He just makes everything look easy and comes across so well in his few minutes of scenes in the movie. Once again, Best Buy combines the bluray and dvd with a steelbook package. I am glad that they continue to do this, since last time with the release of Fast&Furious7 and repackaging the 1st 6 movies with bluray/dvd/steelbook I purchased them all! This keeps my collection complete and consistent.

Well, it's time again for a Doctor Who Christmas special and this episode delivers a Doctor Who fix for long-suffering Who fans waiting for a new season. I like Peter Capaldi's portrayal of the good Doctor, and apparently the next season will be his last?? So enjoy this special while waiting for the next season. Note: I deduct 1 star for rating only because of the piecemeal approach of releasing single episodes or partial seasons that the BBC has been doing for Doctor Who. I wind up buying the episode multiple times as I am never sure whether or not the Christmas Special will be included in the Season Set release? (That, and I can't wait with the long gaps between seasons.)

I have been using HR Block tax software program for several years now. Prior to that, I used TurboTax. HR Block software is easy to use for DIY taxes. It works as well as TurboTax, but for a lower cost. My only complaint with ALL of these tax software programs is how the cost has climbed steadily up with the addition/inclusion of features I do not require, i.e. 5 "free" tax filings. I only have one return. Plus if you really want or are worried about security and not leave your financial info on HR Block servers when you file, you can mail it in to IRS. Then you need zero "free filings". In the "old days" these programs were half the price of today and you paid for the filings. I still like to have the software on disc to load onto (air-gapped) computer instead of downloading program from internet or running program on internet as some other lower cost options/versions do. In summary, the program is easy to use, you actually have the disc/software and are in control of decisions regarding how you want to treat/handle your financial data but I don't need 5 filings, hence I give it a 4-star rating.

If you are looking for a lot of room shaking bass then this Klipsch 12 inch subwoofer is the speaker for you. My current HT system with a 10 inch subwoofer was an adequate performer, but when the 12 inch Klipsch went on sale for 1/2 off at Best Buy on Black Friday, i had to get it! This sub really delivers on the low freqs and the 400W built-in amp has plenty of drive to give you a lot of bass, even in large, carpeted rooms that tend to absorb/attenuate the low freqs.

Great for Home Theater and music

I have always liked the sound of Klipsch speakers since I first heard/saw the huge Klipsch corner horn at Good Vibes Stereo in Champaign, IL in 1975 when I was a college student at the University of Illinois. Of course, those speakers were too big to fit in the dorm room plus I couldn't afford them. Flash forward many years and Klipsch has their reference series of speakers developed for home theater applications. The patented Klipsch horn tweeters really deliver the highs throughout the soundfield not only for theater applications, but are also great for serious music listening. Additionally, Klipsch speakers are very efficient. This means they will play loud with low power amplifiers. As a result, you don't get distortion from overdriven power amplifiers that can happen when using less efficient speakers and you crank the amp to get decent listening levels.

I have always enjoyed Mel Brooks' movies. The characters and writing of his movies are much more than a "beat you over the head with obvious low-brow humor" which passes for adult comedies in today's movies. Of course, Mel Brooks also utilized so-called "bathroom humor" in his movies, but it seemed to be done in a different way integrated with the scene or storyline such as the classic "eating beans around the campfire" scene from Blazing Saddles. His movies are also non-stop as to the comedy -jokes, gags, conversation and social commentary - with never a lull from beginning to end. When I saw this Mel Brooks collection on Blu-ray at Best Buy and at such a great price/value I bought it immediately. The pristine video of Blu-ray and included extra features make this a collection for all fans of Mel Brooks' classic comedies to own.

Excellent speakers to expand home theater

These small Klipsch speakers are great choice to use for surround speakers in a home theater system, especially if you need a couple of speakers if you are expanding your 5.1 system to 7.1. These Klipsch are also very efficient and will get loud with low power inputs. Combined with their power handling capability and Klipsch horn tweeters, they also sound good if you play music using all 7 speakers of your home theater system.

What's the best speaker wire to use? 16 or 12 guage? Also, is it better to put the banana plugs on the ends of the speaker wire? Hooking up to a Denon Receiver.
12 guage would be the best. Although 16 guage would be OK for shorter runs, I still wouldn't use 16. Use 14 guage instead, especially if you want to save some money on speaker wire. I would also recommend banana plugs. It makes it easier to change speakers or move things around, especially when you need to get to the back of your amplifier. Banana plugs also minimize or eliminate the potential of the stranded speaker wire making a short across the amplifier outputs/speaker when you are making/changing connections. If you don't use banana plugs,you should at least tin the exposed end of the speaker wire with a good lead-free solder.
