Another Fast and the Furious Success
on January 9, 2018

As someone who enjoyed the series since the first, I had to wonder if things were truly starting to get bland...
However, I think the movie series is just what was needed to re-invigorate the films. After a reasonable success on the first movie and a decent sequel, then okay sequel, things started to kick off back with Dom Toretto and his crew. After Fast & Furious (yes, there was a 4th movie that cut out "the" to be distinguished from the first), the series began to get its footing and become an entertainment spectacle.
Fast 5, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, we now get "The Fate of the Furious", which is number 8 in a 10 film series Vin Diesel is hoping for. But how does it fare?
If you love doses of action and stuntwork in your movies, especially with cars involved, then the series will not disappoint. Even when losing one Paul Walker to an fatal car accident during Furious 7's production, the latest film in the series focuses on the remaining crew and soldiers on with a multi-film storyline. It is a good film, to put it simply.
Overall, Fast & The Furious fans will find another winner to add to their collection. And considering this movie made over $1.2 billion on a $250 million budget, we're likely to expect those last 2 movies to complete the story and the franchise.

A Sequel to King Kong...Sort Of
on January 9, 2018

The odd title of the movie aside, this movie did very well for itself. The cast is great, the adventure and drama leaves a good bit of entertainment to be bad, and Kong shows up in fine fashion.
If you found Peter Jackson's King Kong a bit underwhelming, this will get you back on track to appreciating a movie monster icon.

A Good Movie About Aliens...Or Is It?

Basically, this works to give us something a bit better than what Prometheus did for the Alien series. Does it succeed?
To put it lightly, yes. It manages to keep the formula of space horror going in many ways, harkening here and there to prior installments. Yet it is just another good (not great) entry into the series as a whole. I am willing to treat it as a step in the right direction from Prometheus if it gets the Alien series back to quality.

A Sony/Marvel Effort That Is Entertaining
on January 9, 2018

Considering this was a long time coming, Marvel fans everywhere surely clamored at having Spiderman in the MCU. Now, Sony and Marvel both have lent their efforts together to give us a third take on the famous webslinger. How does it do?
Basically, we have Spiderman in high school coming into his own. The movie does have its ups and downs, but turns into a fun adventure that gives us a glimpse at a Spiderman that is not perfect but human.
It won't match Sam Raimi's Spiderman, but it is still a great and more faithful endeavor to such a classic character.

A Good Little Movie About Getting Men in Space

That title may not reflect the truth here, but this movie is still good.
While the USA was working to get astronauts to space and having a time of it, it was the work done behind the scenes that got it complete. The lead actresses in this movie oblige good performances across the board, and the film gets to a wholesome and encouraging spot. And that spot shows that sometimes, the greatest things in life are accomplished by the smallest of doings.

The Sophomore Slump Isn't As Bad Here!

The first movie was an experience in itself that got real popular and successful. The second movie picks up and gives us another fun adventure that lends itself a bit to the Marvel-verse. It is still very entertaining, but still keeps the "been there, done that" saying still going strong.

A Robin William Classic Gets Proper HD Quality!
on January 9, 2018

They tried to release Jumanji on Blu-Ray years ago, but it was a terrible quality. Now, they tried again due to the Jumanji sequel and with Robin Williams's passing. How does the end result fare?
The video is amazing. How amazing? Sony did a 4K and non-4K variant of the restoration of this movie. This Blu-Ray has a 1080p quality version of the 4K scan (for those who don't need 4K). And it is easily among the best looking Blu-Rays I have ever owned.
The sound is still great. Let's put it that way.
The extras are unexpectedly great. Not many Blu-Rays get supplemental material unless they are getting a studio-specific treatment (like Shout Factory or Criterion Collection). This release offers a good amount of extra content to enjoy.
If you want the 4K copy, the 4K quality video and the Dolby Atmos sound are the only real upgrades over this. Otherwise, you have one of Robin Williams's best movies getting an unexpectedly great treatment and release.

A Staple, Though Mature, Christmas Movie
on January 9, 2018

One of the pinnacles of holiday entertainment gets a high definition release in a Blu-Ray/DVD combo and steelbook (no digital copy, unfortunately). Some stuff is dated, but the majority of the movie comes down to the adventure and the performances. Chevy Chase, again, shows a penchant for losing his mind in the most hilarious of fashions, and being the atypical father figure that cannot easily let things go. We also get various other acting performances that are great, the best of which goes to Randy Quaid's Cousin Eddie.
This movie is up there with Bad Santa and Scrooged as being the sort of Christmas movie that will draw in the adults for holiday entertainment.

From the Creator of the Borgias Comes Vampires

While I am sore over the fact that the man who created the Borgias on Showtime WANTED to take on this project, his attempts to give the show one more season failed multiple times and led to its unfortunate cancellation (though I am in agreement with so many that the show ended on a high note at such a perfect place given how the family's history unfolds afterward). I still gave this movie a shot and I was sold well on the work. It looks good, sounds good, has a nice localized story between the lady leads, and it's one to make you curious of some things.
For the price, definitely worth it for those who miss classic vampires that get the right balance of betterment and subtlety to their characters.

The complete fourth season of the present-day adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's imitable Sherlock Holmes crime drama series. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the titular detective who cracks various crime cases for the Metropolitan Police Service in London alongside his sidekick Doctor John Watson (Martin Freeman). The award-winning adaptation is a collaboration between the BBC and PBS, and the fourth season features guest star Toby Jones as one of Sherlock's many adversaries.

While Not Perfect, A Welcome Return

Now that Steven Moffat is out of Doctor Who, and Benedict's due to become Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Martin has plenty of free time, what better way to return to this modern take on a classic series? Considering the so-so effort of Series 3, this one returns in fine stride. It also sets things up for another season later on, which I am open toward.

how do I resume a Cd where I stopped?

i play books on CDs on my Insignia, purchased at Best Buy. When i stop a CD I can't figure out how to make it resume the next day at the same spot. Manual doesn't seem to address this.
I don't think you can. The player has an energy saving feature built in where it will shut itself off after a few minutes of no play. You can pause your place and try to resume it within a few minutes, but if you stop the disc or power the player off, it starts at the beginning.

In overview, it says skip protection is 248 seconds, in specifications, itsays 45 seconds. Why is that, and which will it really have?

It's hard to say. The skip protection can vary. With regular CDs, it's one way. With MP3-CDs (CDs that are burned with .mp3 files to read), it's another. MP3 CDs are just data discs with files on them. CDs are a copy protected format that are filled with specific data in a certain format (like DVDs and Blu-ray's). The skip protection likely is determined by the disc type being read, how healthy the disc is (an immaculate one versus a scratched up one), so on.
