This release compiles every episode from season two of Poldark, the BBC historical drama about a British soldier who finds that much has changed when he returns to his Cornwall home after fighting in the American War of Independence.
I have to admit I haven't seen any of Downton Abbey yet, but I think that Poldark has to be one of the best shows on television right now. The first season was fantastic and I'm not disappointed at all with season 2. All of the show's returning characters continue to do a fine job, but I have to say that if Eleanor Tomlinson's performance as Demelza is not nominated for best actress catagories this award season, then the selection committee has no idea of what there doing! Also, for current viewers of the show on PBS, if you decide to buy either season on blu ray, you will be happy to know that there is a significant picture quality upgrade over the actual television broadcast. However, there are not enough extras on the discs, since PBS has already shown pre–season preview shows such as Inside Poldark and Poldark Revealed. How come these featurettes can't be included?
It's pretty amazing how little known stories from our past history have resulted in very entertaining movies. Last year we had The Revenant and more recently we have Free State of Jones. Of course The Revenant was an amazing film in so many ways and a deserving academy award winner, but I was also fascinated with the story presented here. It is filled with good cast performances especially that of Matthew McConaughey. Focusing on the message of what his character stood for and how it can relate to the world we live in today, these themes are presented in this very entertaining film. * P.S. I hope M.M. does more civil war period projects in the future. He's got a perfect flair for these types of roles.
