...Is now a classic rock album. Upside: still inventive and fresh, by today's standards, downside: So successful it has been overplayed! Deep cuts now need to be investigated...
Meaning 'album' in the classic rock sense of the word! A band that is able to combine the sense of tradition of classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Who, while able to recall '90s, and, still manages to push the creative envelope to move forward to the future.
"Elephant", while not being the definitive White Stripes album, is quite the balanced affair! Including hits "Seven Nation Army" and "The Hardest Button to Button", the album has eclectic ("Black Math"), and the slightly surreal ("This Is Not My Home"), as well as an album-ending sing-along, part heavy, part psychedelic, paying tribute to the blues, while not stealing too much in the way of riffs, ideas, or lyrics, "Elephant" is an album for the "Rolling Stone" generation.
Always worth a listen! Flamenco-styled guitar gymnastics accentuate an over-all subtle and complex piece of work. Re-release does shed a little new light on and old hit with three new live tracks. For the un-initiated, a good buy, for the acolyte, not necessary.
