Purchased this one for my wife. It's an enjoyable Christmas film that isn't quite as memorable as others, but still offers enough Christmas feeling to enjoy year after year.
Gremlins is an 80's classic that still holds up rather well. It is a lot of fun to revisit this movie on Blu-ray. It does seem to straddle the line between kid-friendly humor and horror, as this film is one of the few responsible for the implementation of the PG-13 rating. The Blu-ray presentation is nice, offering a clear, colorful picture. Bonus features are minimal but adequate.
The Best of Gary Hoey is an essential collection of songs from the instrumental guitarist. Many songs are familiar covers of popular tunes, and others are originals. There is a wide variety of selections from Hoey's career, and the songs are well-balanced between slower pieces and all-out rockers. A great album for summer driving!
While this movie won't win any awards or even be well-remembered in years to come, it's certainly a treat for fans of the series or 80's action movies. The cast is great, the action is relentless and ridiculous, and the tone stays rather light. The selling point for the Blu-ray is the Dolby Atmos sound, that, when played on a home theater that supports the format, will simply blow the viewer away. Helicopters swarm around the room, bullets whiz from front to back and back to front, and explosions shake the walls. For the price, this is a great-sounding, fun time-waster.
I actually bought this as a gift, as I already own the previous Blu-ray release of The Force Awakens. The steelbook packaging is quite nice and stands out among many of the other steelbooks. My brother-in-law was quite impressed with this set. The movie, of course, is a return to form of the Star Wars franchise, and a must-own for movie fans young and old.
Looking for a great 80s sci-fi/fantasy movie to waste a couple of hours? Look no further than Krull. The film offers everything there is to love about this type film: tons of great practical effects, hammy acting, a stunning score, and grand adventure. Krull is a fun movie, and is recommended for fans of 80s flicks. The films looks great on Blu-ray, but unfortunately contains no bonus material.
We Bought a Zoo is an underrated film that is great for the family. Director Cameron Crowe delivers another emotional ride, and performances by Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, and Elle Fanning are superb. A great feature on the Blu-ray is a family friendly mode that edits out a handful of harsher profanities.
Theocracy's debut is a stunner. Melodic metal that will please fans of the genre, Christian or not. Plenty of guitar crunch, blazing instrumentation, and soaring vocals make for a must-own album.
Kansas closed out their initial tenure with singer Steve Walsh. While not the classic along the lines of Leftoverture or Point of Know Return, Audio-Visions is a strong album and features the hit single Hold On. Recommended for Kansas fans and 80s rock collectors.
Great movie, great format. Captain Phillips is an outstanding thriller with top-notch performances. Tom Hanks delivers yet another masterful job as the real-life captain who defied the odds. The Blu-ray gives crisp picture and sound to further enhance the viewing experience. Bonus features are also great. Must-own Blu-ray for every collection!
