Very good integrated HDTV OTA streaming solution

Like the two extensive previous reviewers, I agree with much of their assessment so rather than simply repeat, I will add my comments.
This device will appeal to our fellow "cord cutters" out there either as the sole HDTV solution or as an integrated streaming tool. Where it shines is as a compliment to other live streaming services like PSVue, SlingTV or DirecTVNow. (I personally recommend PSVue's service after having been through them all) I live in the Salt Lake City area which means the local ABC, NBC & PBS affiliates are not offered through any of the streaming providers. (CBS and Fox are offered thru PSVue). SO ... I had to find a solution I could integrate easily into my army of Amazon FireTV 4K boxes. VOILA! Tablo to the rescue! I really liked the integrated 64GB of storage though like others here, find it insufficient when recording @ 1080. Further the device is simple to set-up, the app is easily downloaded and works very well. I highly recommend hard-wiring the Tablo to your home network as WiFi can be crowded and unreliable.
In closing, I concur with previous reviewers, lack of 5.1 audio is a downside and 1080 interpolation would be welcome firmware improvements. Doubling internal storage to 128GB would be a plus but the ease of expanding the Tablo's storage makes that a minor quibble. That said, this is a very nice solution with a seeming good upside as Tablo does indicate they care and are constantly working on improvements. If you are a die-hard cord cutter like me, and have a pile of streaming devices like AppleTV's or a mix of them like I do with FireTV 4K and AppleTV's throughout the house, this is a simple, rather elegant solution that integrates very nicely with streaming devices.

Launched in 2011, this design established the trend of paper-thin TV antennas. Universally compatible with all HDTVs, the Mohu Leaf 50 offers the benefits and powerful performance of our notorious design coupled with the Jolt Switch USB in-line amplifier to reach a 60-mile range. Control TV signal amplification in real time with a simple ON/OFF switch. When it’s "on", TV signals are increased for clearer picture and sound, sometimes receiving channels beyond your antenna’s standard range. When it’s "off", amplification is bypassed while TV signals are still filtered from FM and cellular interference. When plugged into your TV’s USB port, the amplifier only draws power when the TV is on, saving energy, or use the included USB power adapter with any standard wall outlet. Perfect for suburban areas, compact living spaces, single-TV homes, dorm rooms, RVs…take this efficient antenna just about anywhere you go. Easy to set up and easy on the eyes. Multi-directional UHF and Hi-VHF elements receive TV signals from both sides, so you can show either side of the black or white reversible design or paint the Leaf antenna for a customized look. Note: The range of this antenna will vary greatly depending on the height, power, and frequency of signals coming from the TV tower, as well as the height of the antenna installation, the terrain, and obstacles between your home and the broadcast towers. Find your TV towers and channels by using our free Antenna Point app on your android or iOS device.

Works well as advertised!

Mohu is arguably the segment leader in this category, justifiably so. The Leaf50 may not be sexy but it is effective and works very well. I recently needed to come up with an OTA HDTV solution to add to my "cord cutting" set-up of steaming devices on all my TV's running Sony's PSVue live TV streaming service (I HIGHLY recommend PSVue). Unfortunately in Salt Lake City, all the streaming services do not offer the local ABC, NBC and sometimes Fox affiliates. After much research went with the Tablo Dual linked to an external antenna. I originally tried the Terk Omnitower (see my related review) only to return it and try the Leaf50. MUCH BETTER! Had to fiddle with placement a little and really didn't want to stick this style antenna to my window as it's not the cleanest, most attractive solution but it IS effective. Pulled in 36 OTA HD channels pretty well especially the critical ABC.CBS and NBC stations. Very satisfied with the Leaf50.

This Terk cylinder antenna lets you access additional HD stations at no cost for more entertainment options.

Doesn't live up to it's promise

Recently purchased this antenna to pair with my Tablo Dual to deliver local OTA HD channels to my streaming set-up. (I live in the Salt Lake City area). I had high hopes for the Terk antenna as the promise of going with the Omnitower was a simplified and more aesthetically pleasing set-up compared to using an outdoor or the more commonly used "flat style" HDTV antenna. Sadly, in my area this antenna struggled mightily to pull in the ABC affiliate from only 13 miles away despite trying every amplified setting this model offered as well as moving it around the room. I wound up returning it for a Mohu Leaf50 amplfied which did a MUCH better job! (See my review on that model).

Does it work in a house with aluminum siding?

Bob- It should as aluminum isn't much of a shielding metal to begin with (unlike say lead or concrete etc). However, it would be best to affix the antenna to a window if possible as I have personally found it to improve reception vs. affixing to a wall. You can always go with the outdoor style antennas but they're not only more expensive but more of a pain in the butt to mount etc.

So this has the option of plugging into USB of the tv and that then goes to the antenna? I don't have an antenna coax on my tv.

You will need a coax connection for this antenna to work. Most TV's made since the last 20 years or so do have a coax connector somewhere, you may need to look a little more closely. That said, if you still lack the coax connector on the TV, you might try an adapter such as a Coax to RCA adapter. That will convert the coax signal from the antenna to an RCA signal which nearly all TV's support. Best of luck!

Does this antenna require a coaxial connection to the tv? If so, is there an antenna on the market that doesn't require a coaxial connection? Thanks!

Yes. Although the unit does have a 3' permanently attached coax cable, you may well require an adapter and a longer length of coax to fit your needs.
