"Toto, We're in KANSAS AGAIN!"

It's been a LONG time since I heard anything from one of my favorire bands of the 70's - Kansas. Well, they will never be the same without Steve Walsh and Kerry Livgren, but "The Voyage Of Eight Eighteen" (with Ronnie Platt) on vocals) sure brings back the feeling of the band's extended classics. It even reminds me of the wonderful "Magnum Opus" from the immortal "Leftoverture." Even the instumental "Section 60" sounds more inspired than this group has sounded in years! I just happened to find this c.d. while browsing through Best Buy one day and I'm very glad I did. The Compact Disc may be on the way out, but thank goodness "Kansas" (the Band) is still very much "IN!" They don't need to see "The Wizard Of Oz" - they are still a very talented, excellent group.

A "Young Voice" Singing to our Young Ones

Is there anyway that you cannot enjoy Dolly Parton's singing? The years may roll on, but Dolly sounded like a young child over 40 years ago and she still does! So, this is a perfect collection - Dolly singing to children with all her usual charm.
The "uptempo" numbers are spot on, from the title song to "Together Forever," "A Friend Like You," "Imagination," and "You Gotta Be." There are also "inspirational" or educational songs like "I'm Here," "You Can Do It," and "Chemo Hero." These songs sound like a brilliant teacher lecturing a class of toddlers.
"Coat Of Many Colors" speaks for itself. It was a classic when it first reached the public in 1971, and it still is. At 61 years old, the song still brings tears to my eyes. Miss Parton, I BELIEVE IN YOU - and anyone who listens to this c.d. should believe in Dolly as well. This collection is worth every cent I spent on it!

Tom Petty's Passing Is "The Hardest Part..."

I had the pleasure of attending a Tom Petty concert in Philadelphia literally WEEKS before the shocking news of his passing hit the world. I've love him since I first heard him back in the late 70's, but I somewhat forgot some of the classic songs he performed from "Wildflowers." Although this album dates back to 1994, it STILL sounds great. The title song is now a sweet memory of Tom, "You Don't Know How It Feels," "You Wreck Me," "Honey Bee," the funky "Cabin Down Below," the tender ballads "Hard On Me" and "To Find A Friend" - these are some of the finest songs Mr. Petty ever did - with or without The Heartbreakers. Thank you for all the great musical moments, Tom. Trying to deal with your passing while listening to this classic album is, indeed, THE HARDEST PART!

Chaotic, but Classic Roger Waters
on August 7, 2017

"Radio K.A.O.S." is classic Roger Waters. "KAOS" is a concept album about a wheelchair bound boy who can receive radio waves through his head. The story unfolds through his correspondence with a DJ at KAOS radio station in Los Angeles. It has a bit of everything...."Radio Waves" is pure rock and roll," "Four Minutes" sounds like something Roger lifted from John Lennon's experimental projects, "Sunset Strip" is actually a sing-along-song, and a couple of tracks bring you back to the Pink Floyd days. Mr. Waters can never be Pink Floyd on his own, but he comes pretty close on this album. If you don't mind a bit of chaos, you will love listening to this c.d.

Lauren Alaina Is Back!
on July 28, 2017

When I stumbled across Lauren Alaina's "Wildflower" a few years ago (in a discount bin), I thought she would be an overlooked one-hit wonder. Thank goodness that she is back!
The title song of this disc is a classic; "Doin' Fine" is an uptempo anthem; "My Kinda People" and "Queen Of Hearts" sound like the relaxing beauties that Carrie Underwood has been producing; "Three," "Think Outside The Boy," and "Painting Pillows" are gorgeous ballads. I'm not much of a country music fan but this woman is extremely talented! I hope we hear a lot more from her.

Enjoy A Guilty Pleasure!

"Hot Chocolate" may not have been the most sophisticated band in the 1970's and 1980's, but, as their name suggests, they made some sweet, tasty music that sticks in your head forever. "You Sexy Thing" has always been my favorite song from this band, and even though I was the king of disco bashers during its brief heyday, this song always came across as a great rhythm and blues track. The same could be said for "Emma" and "Brother Louie." If this music appeals to someone who is not a fan of dance tracks, IT HAS TO BE GOOD! It is also sensibly priced, so treat yourself to a by-gone era where popular artists actually wrote songs and displayed musical talent.

"The Return Of A Criminally Forgotten Genius"
on June 3, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
Al Stewart is a musical genius. Although this collection only focuses on his peak years (1976 through 1981), it contains some of the finest, most sophisticated pop music ever created. Stewart was a geat guitar and keyboard player, and his lyrics were far beyond anything that anyone else wrote. "Year Of The Cat," "Time Passages," "Song On The Radio," and "Midnight Rocks" are the tip of the iceberg, but all 10 trackson this disc are immortal. The intensity of Phil Kenzie's saxophone also help to make the songs sound brilliant. Al was around long before he recorded these songs, but these are probably the most memorable tunes he has ever created. Great music at a great price!

Paul offers beautiful flowers!
on May 15, 2017

"Flowers In The Dirt" brings back such great memories. It was Paul McCartney's best album since "Tug Of War" (7 years earlier) - and it prompted his first American tour since 1976! This package is chock-full of Paul's most inventive songs - "My Brave Face," "Figure Of Eight," "This One," "Put It There" - just to name a few. Also, Elvis Costello's presence seemed to push Paul beyond some of the mediocrity he offered on "Press To Play" (the previous album). The Best-Buy bonus 45 is also worth it, because the non-album "b" side ("Flying To My Home") is a good song in itself - I really wish it was one of the "extras" on the c.d. The demos are certainly worth hearing - they give us McCartney die-hards more reason to believe that this man is truly a 20th cenury genius!

"His Name Was Prince - and He Was An Original"
on March 18, 2017
Posted by: Deeder
Verified Purchase:Yes
Shy, self-reliant, off-the-wall, great musician - Prince Rogers Nelson lived up to all of these descriptions - and "Prince 4 Ever" displays all of them brilliantly. A typical "best-of" package, it is aimed at casual music fans who wish to either introduce themselves to the man - or just want to briefly sum up his career in two discs. The package features most of the classics that he will be remembered for ("When Doves Cry," "Let's Go Crazy," "Purple Rain," "Little Red Corvette,' "Kiss") - however, like most hits packages, many of the songs are tragically edited. For the adventurous, there is one unreleased ballad, "Moonbeam Levels" that sounds like a demo for "When Doves Cry" (same relentless percussion). Before he utilized his back-up bands, Prince was another Stevie Wonder - a one-man band who almost delivered albums by himself. He certainly was one of the great originals of our era, and this set proofs that beyond doubt (even former President Obama admits that in the information booklet). If you can accept edited versions of some of his best work, there is not one bad track on " Prince 4 Ever." He will never be forgotten!

"Bella Stephania"

If Stevie Nicks felt a need to prove that she did not need a band to be brilliant - "Bella Donna" certainly did the job. This 3-disc package is an absolute beauty. The original classic songs sound incredible (The title song, "Leather & Lace," "Stop Draggin....," "After The Glitter Fades," "Edge Of 17"); her two "lost soundtrack" songs are finally where they belong ("Blue Lamp" & "Sleeping Angel"); and the 3rd "live" disc is a gem of a concert! For those of us who NEVER had the joy of attending a solo Stevie show, this is a must. She belts the songs out magnificently (even the Fleetwood Mac songs, and I didn't think that was possible). Oh, by the way, Best Buy's price was reasonable too. This is a wonderful package, anyway you look at it - or LISTEN!
