Solid effort

The Jayhawks had a great beginning to their career with some great early albums such as "Tomorrow the Green Grass". This album is not in that league but it is still a solid effort that most bands would love to have as part of their catalog. Worth picking up if you love the early Jayhawks albums. A little more pop oriented that those early great ones but still a pleasant listening experience.

Overlooked gem

After the big splash that Dire Straits made with their debut album, this understated solid effort tends to get overlooked but it shouldn't. It doesn't have that 1 standout track such as "Sultans of Swing" from the first album but all the tracks on this have a subtle beauty. Communique is the overlooked gem in the Dire Straits catalog.

A fine album for fans of Mike Scott's Waterboys

I had stayed away from purchasing this album due to the fact that reviews that I had read mentioned how the fiddle had replaced the electric guitar as the main instrument that was emphasized on this album but after listening to this album I was happily surprised how much I enjoyed the songs on the album. If a couple of songs that are more than 7 minutes( We Will Not Be Lovers and Sweet Thing) had been edited down to around 5 minutes the album would have flowed much better.

Almost a return to glory

R.E..M attempt a return to the glory days of old and succeed on several songs but fall short in terms of their past seemingly effortless great albums. Songs like Imitation of Life sound as if they could have been on an R.E.M. album from the eighties but other songs fall short, such as Summer Turns to High, which tries too hard to recapture the atmosphere of past songs. A better album than I thought it was going to be and at the price I bought it for it definitely was a bargain.
