What are the dimensions of the box itself? I want to make sure I can fit this in my car.

sorry - don't remember - but, if it helps - we have a Ford Escort hatchback and it wouldn't fit.

What is the correct width of the unit? I note that people have asked for the dimensions and the width is being listed as 23.63; I purchased the unit today and the box states that it is 28 inches wide, which is correct?

the unit itself is 23.5" - but when the side wings are opened up (the accordian pleats to fill out the window) it gives you up to 28" of coverage
