Director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) directs this critically acclaimed period medical drama about Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen), opium addict and gifted surgeon in resident at New York's notorious Knickerbocker Hospital, and his bloody exploits with his assistant Dr. Algernon Edwards (Andre Holland). This complete collection of the first season's episodes include "Method and Madness," "Mr. Paris Shoes," "The Busy Flea," "Where's the Dignity," and more.
All ten episodes of the award-winning medical drama series' second season, set in 1901, is available in this collection. Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen) continues to perform cutting-edge operations, including an electrical brain stimulation and a devised procedure to seperate conjoined twins, all while battling a heroin addiction that is becoming increasingly dire. Meanwhile, the gifted Dr. Algernon Edwards (Andre Holland), who has ascended to the role of acting chief of surgery, continues to face racially-charged disrespect while dealing with the reappearance of his strong-willed wife, Opal (Zaraah Abrahams). Subplots include Nurse Elkins' (Eve Hewson) search for personal and professional fulfillment, a fiery, near-death experience and various other events in and out of Knickerbocker Hospital with grave consequences. All ten episodes are directed by Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh.
The plot itself is not that enticing or exciting. However, for those who enjoy powerful, emotional acting performances will not be disappointed. Joaquin Phoenix delivers an Oscar-caliber performance.
Fantastic movie. While most biographic movies tend to be a little slow, this film is quite the opposite. Frank Langella's stage presence as Nixon is quite imposing....he brilliantly captures the persona of one of history's most complex individuals.
This is a great all-around movie. Like many biographical films, it was a little slow at times. However, it was nevertheless a VERY enthralling movie and told the compelling story of an often forgotten American pioneer. Watching the film's great flight scenes were even more impressive on blu-ray.

What's great about it: Martin Scorsese's directing & Leonardo DiCaprio's acting
