I decided to move this up to a full five-star rating because there's really nothing I can think of that I don't love about it. It's not an absolutely perfect film, but in terms of fantastic performances, cinematography, score, editing, pacing and the perfect blend of action/comedy/drama; it's an exceptional one where no faults have any effect on my overall experience with it.

Decent Action flick future stars going at it!

Over a decade before they squared off for the Best actor Oscar, Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey duked it out in a post apocalyptic world destroyed by Dragons. This film was pretty enjoyable and it had some interesting, original ideas. There were several droughts throughout where not much happened and the film became a bit dull. But once the action kicks in, things got interesting. The highest praise I can give this is to point out how well the special effects hold up after 12 years. The Dragons look fantastic and their designs are very well done too. Don't expect many layers going into this. It's a bare bones actioner with a couple great actors who had yet to reach greatness at this point.

Another great Blu Ray treatment from Disney

I love the old school animation. It's brilliant and will always hold up to the 0s and 1s of the digital era. Also, the infectious, upbeat songs are so great. They aren't the typical Disney songs and seem a lot more influenced by outside genres like jazz. and more contemporary pop. There's a great story here for kids and adults to enjoy. Disney treat the film on Blu Ray with great care and love. The picture quality is excellent and the special features offer fantastic insights into the making of the film which was the final animated feature that Walt Disney oversaw while he was alive.

A Grim, distopian masterpiece!

John Carpenter is at top form for this. He and Kurt Russell created a lasting 80s icon in Snake Plisskin. This rebellious, enigmatic character is on par with 80 pop culture hero's like Terminator and Robocop. The dystopian world on display is like a perfect setting for this great cast to build this memorable, yet simple plot that is perfectly underlined by Carpenters ominous score.

One of the best genre films of the 80s

Such a brilliant film! It's a perfect combination of intense, graphic 80s action and biting social satire that is more accurate today than ever. Great performances and hilarious, tongue in cheek news media breaks that give the film a great flow and breaks up the acts nicely. Paul Verhoven directed a genre classic that is just as effective today as it was over 25 years later.

Great exectution of a overdone genre!

This is how you do a home invasion film! The people who did The Purge should take notes on this. I loved the idea of fighting back against the invaders and when the fighting starts, there are some deaths scenes that will be embedded into your brain for life because they are so graphic or creative.
I was a little taken back in the first 20 minutes because it had a hard time setting up the characters and I think that was mainly due to a lack of acting talent in some of the actors. But once the ball gets rolling and the invasion begins, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. That is when you start to feel who it is you should root for in the house. The hero of the story ends up being someone I wouldn't have guessed at the beginning and that becomes one of the biggest treats of the film!
This was such a fantastic way to bring the summer movie season to a close! The melding of The Strangers meets Home Alone keeps this movie fast paced and fresh. It's one that I will seek out to watch in theaters again.
