Great show, right up there with MASH, Mchael's navy & Hogens Heros.

The first season of Baa Baa Black Sheep (which was subsequently rechristened Black Sheep Squadron), starring Robert Conrad, Dana Elcar, James Whitmore Jr., John Larroquette, Robert Ginty, Dirk Blocker, and Red West, has arrived as a double-DVD set on a pair of two-sided platters. The full-screen (1.33-to-1) image on these transfers is excellent, far better than the picture this reviewer remembers seeing of the series on The History Channel. The sound is also nicely crisp and defined, and the money spent on the production can be appreciated here. Each episode has been given four chapter breaks, matching the story arc of most of the shows. The menus are easy enough to use although, as with many other Universal DVD releases, there is an annoying array of trailers that runs before the actual menu appears -- one can skip to the start-up menu easily enough, however. The only significant bonus feature comes the the NBC News archives, in the form of an interview with the real Greg Boyington, upon whose World War II exploits the series was based -- he seems far more circumspect with age than Conrad's portrayal would lead one to believe possible; it's also fascinating to see the miserable state of film-to-video transfers, in the form of clips from the pilot episode, that passed muster on network television in 1976.
