Amazing sound, bass in a large but small package

The Sony ULT Field 7 is a beast of a speaker. This speaker was designed for bass lovers and does that job extremely well. On a press of a button, you get two types of bass that either produces low frequencies clearly or gives you that punch that you want when listening to things like hip hop. There is also a feature to customize it to your liking with EQ on the app. Even though Sony is marketing this as a bass lover portable speaker, the mid and high frequencies feel like a breath of fresh air. Most bassy speakers have the mids and trebles muffled a bit to emphasize the bass but not with this Sony ULT 7. Mids and Highs sound like if the singer was able to sing freely. Its hard to explain it without comparing speakers but it just feels like the mids and lows are bright and not held back. The genius feature of this speaker is that you can stand it on its side which takes less floor space when in use with absolutely no sound loss. The LED lighting makes this an attractive piece of furniture in your house when active. The biggest surprise of this speaker is the ability to connect a microphone or guitar to this speaker to use it as a PA system. It has a 1/4 inch input for your microphone or guitar, and has a 3.5mm input if you want to connect an audio source. Not many speakers of this size has those connection features. The Karaoke game has changed with this speaker release. Battery life is also impressive. It is rated 30 hours and I have left my Spotify playlists lapse many times and still have enough battery to continue. With the quick charge feature, plug it into the wall for 10 minutes and you get another 3 hours of playback which means this speaker will be on all the time everywhere. Speaking of everywhere, Sony claims that this speaker is IP67 rated which means it is water resistant, and rust proof. having knocked over a glass of water on this speaker, just wipe it up and go. This makes this speaker a great thing to take with you everywhere. There are only two negatives that I could come up with this speaker. If you own other Sony sound products, it seems like Sony develops an app per speaker. If you have Sony earbuds, there's a separate app for that. You have Sony headphones, there is an app for that. With this speaker, you need the Sony Music App. It would of been cleaner if everything Sony sound-wise is contained in a single streamlined app. In addition, for a speaker of this price point, it would have been nice if it was integrated with Amazon Alexa or Google Home. That way if you are connected to Wi-Fi, you can have your favorite assistant play music atomically without being paired to a mobile device. Besides those two issues, this speaker is just a pleasure to use, hear, and carry around places because it was designed to be large and small at the same time.

The Linksys Velop Micro 6 Mesh System is a great system for someone who wants to move up to a mesh system that brings WiFi signal to your entire house. The system advertises that you will be up and running within 10 minutes and that is absolutely true. If your internet modem is already active, all you have to do is connect your modem to the main unit and then go to the corners of your house and plug in the satellite units. Voila, you are up and running. If you want to change the WiFi name and password to your wireless signal, just go to a website on a computer connected to the default wireless name and you can make it your own by following the simple steps that the website guides you through. I currently have a 500 mbps internet service through my local cable company and doing speed tests I get over 500 mbps consistently. One of the unique features of this Micro Mesh system is the size of the satellite mesh units. They literally are the size of a 12 oz soda can. These mesh units do not take up any space and do not stand out at all. You will literally forget that they exist. The system has been up and running for over a week and not a single drop out or connection lost during streaming, gaming, and data transfer between computers on the same network. All the devices on the network that can take advantage of the WiFi 6 protocol will see consistent speeds and coverage. The mesh system allows you to go anywhere in your house and not have to make any network connection changes.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop is the absolute definition of luxury computing. For a laptop of this size with an amazing clear OLED screen with an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, 32 gigs of RAM and crazy NVIDIA 4090 GeForce RTX video card, it is super thin and quiet. Most computers with this configuration would be thick and loud because of all the cooling necessary to prevent you from cooking your dinner on it. The metal body of the laptop just feels solid and sturdy but the intelligent fan system that ASUS puts on this thing just whispers during heavy gaming sessions. This laptop also includes an IR camera that allows you to use Windows Hello’s facial recognition system. This is super handy to help with Password Managers. Surprisingly, the top facing speakers provide great sound. The great speakers come at the sacrifice of a Number pad on the keyboard. So, if you absolutely need to have the right hand numpad to do work, then you would need to buy an external numpad. Another annoying part of this laptop is the power plug. It is a proprietary square plug and sticks out perpendicular to the laptop. This might be a problem because if you use this laptop at the edge of a table, a lot of downward stress is placed on the plug. However, given those two annoyances, this is a masterclass of what a powerful gaming laptop that has luxury feel and is razor thin without sacrificing thermal properties. You can tell that this laptop is going to be used for many years to come and if you are a gamer that values portability, this is definitely a laptop you should look at.

The HP 31.5 VA LED FHD monitor is an amazing computer monitor that has a tremendous amount of real estate to do anything that requires a big screen. The size to price ratio of this monitor is insane. Using this monitor for anything graphics related such as AutoCad, TruMotion, and Sketchup is just amazing. The immersive experience of this monitor while gaming is just crazy. In my spare time I use this monitor to stream from Youtube TV and Netflix. As for multitasking, having a monitor this large just makes it super easy. The monitor has two HDMI inputs and a VGA input so connectivity should not be an issue. Although this is not a 4K monitor, it is surprisingly very clear and awesome color reproduction. Nothing I have used so far shows major pixelation. The other amazing thig about this monitor is the size. You would think that a 32 inch computer monitor would take up a lot of space on your desk. This monitor is crazy thin. 75 percent of this monitor is probably as thin as a school notebook. The bottom quarter of the monitor is the size of 3 school notebooks. It is just ridiculous of how thin this monitor is and does not take up half of your desk.

Low price point that comes with some shortcomings

The HP Laser Jet M140w is a no-frills entry point laser printer that has a low entry cost into the world of black and white laser printing. This low-cost entry point comes at a sacrifice to normal quality of life features. If this printer is connected to your computer via USB cable, then you should have no connectivity issues. It will be recognized by Windows 11 easily when adding the printer. To use the wireless functionality, you will need a smartphone. There is no display on this printer to allow us to navigate the menus. Everything must be set up using the app. That in its own might be a deal breaker to most because it’s another app you need on your phone to control your printer. However, the app is only good for setting up the printer. After setting up the printer wirelessly, sending print jobs over the network to the printer causes issues at times. The display on the printer will display a series of two-digit error codes which makes it not as intuitive to debug print errors. I had hoped to pull up the app for it to tell me what was wrong with the printer. However, the app does not do anything but tell you if the printer is online or offline. Since the printer flashes a series of two-digit codes, searching the internet for the meaning of error codes was difficult. After lots of internet research, I believe the stack of blank papers had slipped out of the tray causing the printer to think it was out of paper. Therefore, make sure the surface you set your printer up is level to prevent any slippage of the stack of paper. In addition, the only way to get the printer to start up again was to do a power cycle of the printer. I also encountered Wi-Fi disconnect causing the printer to appear offline to all the computers on my network. Another thing this printer lacks is an automatic duplex printing mode. Sometimes when asking the printer to print in double-sided mode, the computer will prompt you to put the printed page back in the printer and click continue the prompt to print the other side of the page. Other times it won’t ask, you can just stop. This means that you will have to cleverly figure out how to print again to finish the double-sided printing. If you are just looking for a small footprint black and white laser printer at the lowest cost possible, this will work if you have a mobile device around to set it up if you want the wireless features. However, I believe the lack of detailed error logs on a screen will cause headaches to the user.

Great Evap Humidifier, questionable running costs

The Levoit Superior 6000s Evaporative Smart Humidifier is great at humifying a room but has some major drawbacks that makes me question the longevity of this unit. I am currently using this to replace an ultrasonic misting humidifier in my acoustic guitar room.
Pros: This thing has a MASSIVE water basin and will bring the rooms humidity up very fast. In my tests so far, I can increase the humidity of a room 20% in a few minutes. The humidifier will automatically stop humidifying when the desired humidity level is reached. Since I live in a dry desert environment, most humidifiers work overtime to get anywhere over 35%. I have this set at 42% and it runs for 1 minute ever half hour or so to keep the rooms humidity between 37% and 42%. I have 8 hydrometers setup all around the room and the humidifier reading matches all the sensors with a modification. More on this later. I have do doubt this thing could last me a week if being used to maintain a bedroom that is used as an acoustic guitar room. Using the VeSync app, I can monitor the rooms current humidity, the history charts of the humidity, how many times the humidifier turns on, and change settings on the fly anywhere in the world as long as the internet is working. Another plus is that this thing uses plain tap water and will not create a white powder on all the furniture like an ultrasonic mist humidifier does if you don’t use purified/filtered/distilled water. The performance of this evaporative humidifier is amazing and combine with the 6 gallon reservoir, this thing is a beast.
Con 1: The humidity sensor on this thing is poorly placed. For the first few days the humidifier would not turn on because it was reading the humidity inside the unit. I had set the humidifier level at 45% and the 8 hygrometers I have in the room were reading 31%. The flaw of the sensor location is that it is recessed into the fan unit, so it is always enclosed in the area where the water is evaporating. The sensor does not “sense” the humidity in the air outside of the unit very well. I solved this buy hanging a computer fan on the outside of the sensor and have it blow the room air into the sensor holes. With this modification, the sensor now accurately senses the rooms humidity level and is now in-sync with all the hygrometers spread across the room within +/- 1%. So, I have to waste a bit more electricity to achieve an accurate humidity measurement. Eventually I will 3D print a stand to more elegantly align the fan behind the sensor holes. This could be improved by Levoit by placing the sensor on the outside of the unit or design a fan to suck in the air from the outside to get an accurate reading. Again for 2 days the humidifier didn’t run because it was not sensing the true room air but instead was being affected by the internal humidity levels of the unit. Since my use case was protecting expensive wooden acoustic guitars, I don’t mind spending the electricity to power a computer fan to blow air onto the sensor. This should be a design upgrade for the next iteration.
Con 2: This keeps me up at night. The evaporative humidifier uses four (4) small specifically designed wick filters to keep impurities out of the air. This allows the user to just use tap water. I can’t imagine trying to fill 6 gallons of distilled water or purified water in this system every week. Levoit recommends replacing the filter every 3-6 months. On the website a four pack of filters cost $39.99 and is out of stock. These are disposable filter and reading online, a lot of people with hard water can only get one (1) month out of these filters without building up a bunch of crud. Since these filters are non-washable, I seriously question the cost-effectiveness of running this evaporative humidifier year after year when you factor in the price of filters. Also, the only place I can find that has these filters in stock is Amazon as they are routinely sold out on the Levoit website. I will be looking into the possibility of replacing these filters with washable filters because I fear that if this humidifier does not pick up in popularity as compared to other more frequently used evaporative humidifiers such as the Honeywell Vornado, you will run out of filters to use. There is a hope that if more people use this evaporative humidifier that perhaps more cost-effective wick filters will be produced. If the filters were to last 6 months, then $40 investment every 6 months does not seem bad, but if the internet is correct and these disposable filters only last 1 month, I would seriously doubt the long-term cost effectiveness of this humidifier.
In summary, as an evaporative humidifier, this thing does its job very well. I am thoroughly impressed at this unit’s ability to bring up and maintain a level of humidity with an extremely large reservoir that does not require daily monitoring of water level. Levoit missed the mark on humidity sensor that requires a bit of ingenuity to have it accurately measure the rooms true humidity. I have major concerns on the long-term support of wick filters for this unit if it does not become more commonly used in households around the world and its cost effectiveness in replacing filters frequently.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The DJI mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo Plus is a great drone package if you want to have everything you need to fly for a long time. The DJI mini 4 Pro drone itself is a marvelous package of technology rolled into a small portable drone that falls under the FAA’s 249g requirement to get a license. What this means is that you do not need to have a FAA Part 107 pilot license to operate this drone recreationally. Note that if you do plan on profiting off this drone or performing work for a non-profit, you will need the Part 107 license. If you are just taking personal photography and tracking, you are good if you obey all local restriction rules. And this is where the RC-2 controller is excellent. The built-in screen allows you to keep your cellphone in your pocket and see all the GPS satellites available, Google Maps, and best of all, automatic notifications of local restrictions when you power on the drone and remote and lock in some GPS satellites. The mini 4 Pro drone does a great job hovering in place in windy situations and add the famous DJI gimbal and your photos and videos will be stable in all conditions. The different tracking modes work extremely well and do a good job tracking the specified subject while avoiding obstacles in their way. This drone is really a drone you want to get if you want to just focus on capturing your desired pictures and videos without having to worry about losing the drone. Return to Home feature is a blessing that allows you to just have the drone return to the takeoff point if you lose line of sight with the drone. Included in this package are 3 extra long flight time batteries rated at 45 mins of flight time per battery. It also includes a charger that will charge all three batteries serially. A Power Delivery USB-c charger is not included, but if you have a modern cell phone that handles 20W or more, you are set. Also, everything is contained in a nice compact leather case. Being in such a portable leather case means you are more likely to carry it everywhere with you. The only problem I see is that because of the tight fit of everything in the leather pouch, you need to remove the screw in thumb sticks of the controller. I am envisioning losing these thumb sticks forever if they fall onto the ground or in the grassy knoll in the dark. Extra thumb sticks are not included. All in all, this is a great package if you just want to get a drone with a quick learning curve and want to take exciting pictures and videos, this package is worth the money for the built in screen controller, batteries, and carrying case.

The Polaroid Now Generation 2 is a fun blast from the past camera system. Photos from an instant film camera is definitely a great party conversation piece. The nice thing about this camera is that it accepts both i-Type and 600 versions of instant film. However, I have notice that pictures are much clearer and develop much nicer quality using 600 film. With i-Type film, I keep getting spiderweb spots and blurry photos. Using the 600 film this camera produces photos you expected from the past. Therefore I deduce that the camera is not the problem but the film is. This bundle comes with two packs of i-Type film and I recommend switching to the 600 film after you are done. The camera body is built like a toy and is mostly plastic. There is no protection for the lenses so make sure you don't scratch it. Battery life from the internal battery seems to be fine after 4 packs of polaroid film. I do find it difficult to press the picture button because it takes a bit of effort to depress the button. Another weird thing that this camera does that no previous polaroid camera I have used does is when it dispenses a picture, there is a built in film that covers the picture and retracts back in when you fully remove the picture. This feels like a potential failure point but so far works fine. If you are interested in producing party favor polaroid pictures, this camera will do the job.

Laptop Quality of Life Improvement Product

The Mobile Pixels DUEX Max DS 14.1" IPS LCD Monitor is a sweet add on to your laptop if you need a second screen and don't want to lug around an additional monitor. The monitor is held on to the monitor with the use of strong magnets. The biggest issue is if you have a laptop larger than 15.6 inches. You would be tempted to try and put the monitor in the middle of your laptop but you will have a bit of clipping on the edge of the screen. Therefore, I recommend picking which side of the laptop you will use the screen and flush the monitor installation template to that side. The other consideration is how weak is the hinge of your laptop. If it is loose, you potentially would have the screen fall open or close. Mobile Pixel does sell an attachment stand, but it feels like that should have been included with the monitor. Now that the grips are out of the way, this is a major quality of life improvement for your laptop. The screen is clear and crisp and is a very low footprint. It comes with everything you need to install on any modern-ish laptop. It comes with an HDMI cable, a USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. If you laptop is fortunate enough to have a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort, then you only need one wire to connect your screen to your laptop. Otherwise you would need to connect two wires, making it a bit of cumbersome wire routing. The color, saturation, and brightness all can be changed. It works seamlessly in Windows 11 and just reduces the table footprint of having two screens on your laptop. There is no heat being emitted from this extra screen and is a great quality of life improvement. One other nit pick is when the screen is fully extended, it is held in place by two BB ball bearings. There are times light movements will knock it off the ball bearing and the bottom part of the screen slips. So if you are using this on rough terrain and shakiness, it might not work best, but on a table or stable surface, this is a winner.

Value priced hub that won't break the bank

This Insignia USB-C hub is a great expansion for a laptop or mobile device that you need to expand the ports on. If you have an advanced USB-C port, you can use it to expand an HDMI port, 2 USB-A ports, an ethernet port, and SD and microSD card reader. The build quality is excellent because it is metallic. Good weight and solid feeling. Reading data off SD or microSD cards were stable and quick. This hub is a great way to expand the connectivity of your laptop because of all the devices that a laptop uses nowadays. Mouse, second monitor, USB microphone all connect to this hub and only occupy one USB-C port on your laptop. The HDMI port works perfectly to connect a second monitor or used to connect to a TV. Granted, the HDMI port only really works if your USB-C port supports DisplayPort connections, otherwise only the USB features work. The ethernet port works fine and running speed tests shows no degradation of network speeds. All in all, this is a great USB-C hub that is affordably priced and is a must have if your laptop is USB port limited
