Almost perfect!

I've been using the new Marshall Monitor Bluetooth headphones for the past couple of weeks. Marshall is stepping up it's game on the high end headphone market by continuing to add features to their headphone line. There are several improvements over the current Monitor headphone that make these worth a look.
First of all... bluetooth! With everything moving to bluetooth adding this connectivity capability is a huge plus. Using Qualcomm aptX technology the sound is improved by compressing the signal even more for a hi-res stream without losing quality of the sound. In bluetooth mode you should be able to be un-tethered up to about 30 feet without loss of signal. If you prefer to hard connect a 6 foot long 3.5mm coiled cable comes with the headphones. A cool feature is the ability to listen wirelessly and a friend can plug their headphones into the 3.5mm jack on the right earcup and listen along... sweet!
Second feature I like is the control joystick on the left earcup. The single button/joystick controls power, bluetooth pairing, volume up and down, forward and back and pause and play functions when connected to a smartphone. It took a little bit for me to develop the muscle memory to effectively use the controls. Mileage may very.
The sound is fantastic. Rich tones, but you would expect that on a higher end headphone. While these headphones don't have active noise canceling they do provide some noise isolation. They would be perfect if they would have active noise cancelling. I have yet to find a Marshall equalizer app that works with the Monitor but most music apps have their own. I would have expected Marshall to have something to get the most out of their headphones but it's not a major drawback and there are other apps that can do the job.
Now to comfort... the foam in the on the ear cups is soft and the thin cover is supple however I found the tension of the metal strap to be a bit on the stiff side so wearing these for an extended period of time is a bit uncomfortable. I ended up bending the strap a little bit to take some of the tension off. The metal strap is covered with the same foam and cover of the same material as the earcups. They say these are over the ear but my ears are slightly larger so they end up resting partially on my ears making prolonged wearing a bit uncomfortable. I find myself gravitating more to studio type headphones but these Marshall headphones are comfortable enough that I could probably wear them for a couple of albums worth of music without a problem.
Battery life is great. You should get around 30 hours of play time on a charge and with the supplied USB charging cable you should be able to power it back up quickly.
The headphones look fantastic with the gold trim and a black simulated leather cover on the cups and the white Marshall branding displayed. The headphones come with a 3 foot long USB charging cable along with the partially coiled 6 foot long 3.5mm audio cable and a nice carrying bag.
All in all these are a great addition for music lovers. Price is on par with comparable manufacturer units so there isn't much to not love.

Honey I Shrunk The Flash Drive!

Dang this thing is tiny. It is a very convenient small form factor USB flash drive. The biggest advantage is being able to leave them in your device. The Ultra-Fit extends out about 1/4" when plugged into a laptop (or other device with a USB 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1 port) so you can leave it plugged in all the time.
The only down side I can think of is also due to its really small size it could be easily misplaced. I would suggest if you are taking it in and out of a device that you put some sort of "leash" on it. There is a small loop on the outer most edge that would accommodate a tether of some sort. Now if Sandisk could just incorporate a universal mouse receiver like a Logitech nano then it would be really cool!

A bit pricey but you get what you pay for!

Okay, let me preface this review with the fact that I already had a great set of gaming headphones and really didn't need these but I was intrigued with the Lightsync feature. I also like that you can switch between USB (PC) input and 3.5mm audio jack input. There is a switch on top of the left earcup to switch between the two. Of course with 3.5mm you don’t get all of the features of these headphones that G Hub gains you with it in USB mode.
Out of the box I was very pleased with the way the fit on my head. The earcups are very soft with cloth covers so they should last longer than vinyl coated covers that tend to powder and rot after a few years. They aren't terribly heavy but for my head (which is a little large) they are a bit snug and might cause me trouble for extended gaming sessions. I also like the mike boom that swivels down or tucks nicely into the left earcup. Another “feature” that has me scratching my head is the removable panels on the earcups. They are held on by magnets and I suppose if you want to 3D print your own covers that might be a nice feature but… still scratching my head.
The 7.1 surround sound has great range. Using Logitech’s G Hub software adds tweaking capability along with other controls covered later. G Hub allows you to adjust more than just output and mic input levels along with sidetone (mic feedback to the earpieces… aka echo). There are also check boxes for noise removal (note this is not noise cancelling), enabling surround sound (with volume control for each channel), and DTS mode. There is a tab to set your equalizer with 32 to 16KHz slidebars or simple bass and treble adjustments. Like I said, lots of tweaking capabilities!
Now the two items that I don’t care for… RGB lighting and programmable buttons. Since the headphones are on my head I can do without the RGB lights. You can’t see them when they are on your head… duhhhhh! Now maybe with some added brightness you can use them to add some ambient lighting if you game in a dark room. I can take it or leave them. Now onto the programmable buttons. Fortunately all of the buttons are on the left earcup and not split between the two earcups. I guess they are great if you use them for on the fly adjustment of sound. There are over a dozen pre-programmed commands to adjust sound. I think I might use buttons to mute audio input and output. I do love the volume wheel on the left earcup. It does take some practice to locate it but it’s pretty intuitive. But you can use them as custom in game commands, macros and even system commands like cut and paste. Honestly blindly reaching for a button on my headphones while working or playing just doesn’t seem practical.
In my personal opinion they perform great and are a good value for the just under $140 MSRP.

I admit that I've been using my phone camera as a cheap scanner by just snapping a quick shot but image quality and lighting can be an issue. There are several smart phone scanner apps that will use your phone camera and create a PDF. It's all well and good but I usually end up having to manipulate the image a bit.
I received the Epson ES-60W portable scanner to evaluate. So far I'm very impressed with the quality and speed of scanning. Setup was pretty easy. Using the Epson Smartscan smartphone app found either on the Apple Store or Google Play it doesn't get much easier.
Setup was a breeze on both my laptop and my Android phone. On my laptop I'm using it through USB cable connection but my Android phone is connected via wifi.
Using the Epson Smartscan app on my phone scanning is extremely quick. It takes about 5 seconds for a 300dpi color scan of a letter size document. Easy to save the scan and share by email or messaging or you can save to any of the cloud accounts you may have linked to your phone.
The most impressive part of this scanner is it's size, weight and rechargable battery. Roughly 10 1/2" wide, 1 1/4" tall and 1 3/4" deep it's the perfect size to through in your backpack or laptop bag.
I like devices that can improve my productivity and this is a little gem I plan on using when I'm on the run.
Pros: small, lightweight, wifi connectivity, easy to use software and mobile app
Cons: none that I can think of.

Crushers, not an over exageration

I've owned several Skull Candy products in the past including a wired Skull Crusher headphones. When Skull Candy came out with a wireless version of their headphones I was anxious to try them. If you aren't familiar with their Skull Crusher line of products just think of a decent pair of headphones with SUPER Bass.
The pros:
- The headphones look eligant with their black body and frame and saddle tan leather padding (bridge and ear cups).

- They are super comfortable with not a ton of pressure on the head so long duration wearing shouldn't be a problem. The close fit creates sound isolation (not noise cancelling)
- Sound quality is decent. Not in line with say an Audio-Technic bluetooth but good enough to enjoy many different genre of music without tweaking the equalizer.
- Controls are placed well with with cabled connections (charging cable and optional headphone cable) on the left ear pod along with the power and Bluetooth toggle button. Additionally on the outside surface of the left ear pod you can control the "Crush" or bass by touch, swiping or or down to increase or decrease the bass. On the right ear pod are located the volume up/track forward and volume down/track back buttons and the pause/play button doubles for phone answer/end call. The headphone/mic cable also packs multi-purpose buttons with a volume up and down slider and a play/pause/track forward/track back/call answer and end button.

-Easy pairing of Bluetooth and you can always use the cable.
-good battery life with rapid charging
-comes with a great carrying case that has pockets that hold cables
Not so great: not much not to dislike.
All in all a good set of headphones. Maybe a bit pricey at MSRP but on sale for the holiday. I'm still trying to figure out who these are marketed for. With crusher mode in full you get pretty loud bass thump, almost uncomfortable for any sustained play. For day to day listening I'd have this pulled down bass to no more than 50% but at 100% you understand why they call them crushers! Quiet Riot's "Come on Feel the Noise" comes to mind!

Alexa, this thing rocks!

As a Christmas present my son received one of the Marshall Bluetooth speakers and we were blown away by the sound and how it filled a room. Fast forward a year or two and Marshall introduces their Bluetooth speaker with Alexa.
I've got a few home assistants powered by Google, Alexa and Cortana. I use none of them now because, as a sound device they just aren't up to par. Yeah, they are great home assistants, sort of. I didn't have much luck with the Cortana device. The Google device is pretty intuitive since I have an Android phone but Amazon nailed it with the broad uses of Alexa powered devices.
The new Marshall Stanmore II Voice nails everything that I wanted in a home assistant device and the sound quality is freakin amazing. I get all of my typical Alexa usability and add room filling high quality sound which is especially nice when tapping into my Amazon Music Library.
I love the multiple inputs of this speaker. There are two auxillary jacks (RCA and 1/8" plug), Bluetooth, and Wifi. You can control the speaker wirelessly with the Marshall Voice app on your smartphone or by talking to Alexa or you can plug into an auxilary jack directly with your player. The top of the speaker has 3 dials: volume, bass and treble. There is also a play/pause button and a microphone on/mute button.
The Marshall Voice app even allows you fine tune the sound with either pre-set EQ settings or you can customize to your own taste.
One of the upcoming features will be to set up a multi-room sounds system using Alexa, either playing the same content or separate. I'm looking forward to this feature which would rival similar systems. The speaker is beautiful if you love the Marshall amp look. It's small enough to fit on a bookshelf or even stick on your computer desk and use as a computer speaker via one of the aux jacks. Multi-use, multi-faceted,
While the price is higher than other home assistants you do gain sound quality and this speaker could easily replace a room stereo. I can't waith for the mutli-room sound system capabilities.

Hot and Cold!!!!

I've been impressed with Ninja kitchen applicances in the past. Having a Ninja blender and coffee maker I wanted to see what the new Ninja Hot and Cold Brew Coffee Pot was all about.
It lives up to the Ninja name in build and quality and the end product is what I expected. My wife LOVES her coffee and getting her to switch from anything that works is usually a challenge. She saw nothing wrong with our old Ninja coffee machine but I do love to mix it up with coffee and iced tea and the new Ninja looked like it could fit both of our needs.
It comes with two baskets/filters. One for hot brew and one for cold brew. The front dial control recognizes which basket you have inserted and adjusts the selection options accordingly. We've been using it a few days for hot brew coffee and finally tried cold brew coffee today. Both options provide great beverages. We also both like the thermal carafe. It keeps the heat and cold longer than a glass carafe of our previous maker. We also like the frothing feature and the ability to make a single cup with a simple setting.
It's attractive on the counter but it might be too tall for some under counter spaces so check it's height with your situation before you grab one of these.
If you are into cold brew or iced tea you should give this brewer a try. You won't be disappointed.

Formidable Challenger Drone
on October 7, 2018
Posted by: Technopackrat
from Katy, TX
Having a couple of the brand "D" drones I was anxious to get my hands on the Autel EVO.
Out of the box I was impressed with the build quality. I also like it's compact size with foldable propeller arms very much like the Mavic Pro. With 4K at 60FPS the video quality rivals other more expensive drones and the 12MP camera does a great job on stills.
It comes with the following in the box:
- Autel EVO drone
- remote controller
- 32GB Sandisk micro SD card
- extra set of propellers
- charger (capable of charging the drone battery and remote simultaniously)
- remote USB charging cable
- 2 smart phone connecting cables (since I'm a Samsung phone user I was happy to see one of the cables was a USB type C)
- soft carrying case
- and of course instructions
The biggest draw for me the ability to fly it without a smart phone. The OLED display on the remote control gives you camera view and the basic flight status information (height, distance, speed and gimble angle, battery strength and remaining flight time). On the left side of the controller at top features a dial for controlling the gimble pitch and a video record button. At the right top is a shutter button and display mode button and screen navigation wheel. On the back are two programmable buttons for user use.
Here are some of the main features of the controller that I like:
- Safe launch and land button
- Go Home button
- a pause button which will pause the drone in place from whatever commands are currently being done
- multiple modes for flight, depending on user's preference
I especially like that adding a smartphone is done at the top of the controller with an included clamp device. Adding a smartphone running Autel Explorer opens up a ton more features like GPS way-point flight control and easy setting of follow me and also satellite view of position. Also, with the controller layout similar to a gaming controller you will be familiar with the feel in your hand and the palm grips fold in for compact storage. Unfortunately I have not yet found any 3rd party smartphone apps for the EVO like Litchi which allows for the use of VR goggles.
Out of the box I found it very easy to fly. Controls are intuitive and it only takes a short few minutes to get the hang of basic flight and photography. With more practice you can start adding some of the advanced features to your flight. I actually found it easier to fly than the Mavic Pro and I like the smartphone placement better.
If you are considering a high end video/photo drone you should consider the Autel EVO. Feature to dollars it's a formidable adversary to the other brands.

Mighty Mouse… Here I come to save the day!

I’ve always had a soft spot for Logitech accessories using several for a long time. I had the opportunity to try the new G502 Hero High Performance Gaming Mouse and I was not disappointed.
There is a lot to like about this mouse.
• I like my gaming mice on the heavy side and the Hero comes with five weights to tweak the weight and balance.
• It has super smooth tracking with the 16K tracking sensor, serious DPI
• I love Logitech’s Gaming Software that controls all Logitech accessories such as keyboards, mice, and headsets. All in one as it should be. With it you can program the 11 buttons (2 are on the scroll wheel tilt) with macros, DPI shifting, lighting and more.
If there was any knock on this mouse it would possibly be the scroll wheel. Compared to the gaming mouse that I’m using now (from another manufacturer) the tactile feels a bit soft but with a little more use I'm sure I'll get used to it.
This mouse at roughly $80 MSRP out-performs many that cost more. I’ll be swapping my old favorite with the G502 Hero for my daily use gaming mouse.
I found a winner for sure!!!

Great Value

I’ll admit that I’m more of a PC gamer rather than a console gamer but there are a couple of games I do like on the console better, including racing games. My gaming rig includes a Playseat racing seat with wheel and pedal stand. The biggest drawback I’ve had with the experience is getting immersive sound. Speaker placement can be tricky enough since I can’t leave my rig sitting in the middle of the floor. The solution? A great set of surround sound headphones. This is where the Plantronics Rig500 Pro HX headphones come in and boy do they.
I fired up Forza 7 on my X-Box One S and plugged in the Rig500 Pro HX and got the immersive sound I had been looking for. Plenty of volume and bass with amazing clarity with the bonus of not disturbing my wife while she’s watching her TV shows in the next room. The sound is clear and with them being surround sound capable I get true immersion with all ambient sounds coming from all around.
The fit is comfortable. I do have a larger head so I do max out the adjustment on the band but I do love that the rigid bridge between ear cups does not come in contact with your head but rather there is a soft material under the bridge that is more like a hammock making the points of contact with your head very comfortable. The foam on the cups are very supple. The metal bridge has just the right amount of tension to keep the headset firmly planted on your head but not so much that it’s uncomfortable.
The cord is long enough for connecting to the X-Box controller and the volume control knob on the jack itself is a great touch so you can fine-tune your experience. With a little bit of creativity (actually just picking up a mic/headset extension cable and splitter you can also connect it to a PC mic and headphone jacks.
My only complaint is that I max out the adjustment because of the size of my head so these fit in that category of one size fits most with me being the few that stretch it to the limits. They do put a little pressure on my ears, tugging slightly up while they fit snuggly into the ear cups.
There are a lot of choices for surround sound gaming headsets, and I have a few of them. At the price point of around $80 the Plantronics Rig500 Pro HX should be on your short list to consider.

NO, this is a HDMI selector switch which allows you to select between 4 devices (such as game consoles, blu-ray or DVD player, PC, etc) to a single HDMI input on a TV (or projector for that matter). It DOES NOT provide any content. This IS NOT a cable box replacement. I suggest you contact Comcast to get a replacement set top box.
