The conceit of how the 'follow' is passed and what the characters do to stop being 'followed' is what drives this movie...it is also why it is so good.
This one is destined to be copied (probably..badly) and considered a classic in years to come. True horror movies will never die as long as new ideas keep coming.

With just a few minor quibbles with the logic & conceit of the film this is a solid feature and well worth your time. Garland wrote the screenplays for '28 days later'(2002), 'Dredd' [the good one, with Karl Urban](2012) and 'Sunshine'(2007)...his respect for science fiction is obvious, he never goes to cliche sci-fi stupidity.

Does the kitchen timer work when the microwave is working
It's very useful to use the timer on the microwave to keep track of something else you are timing. So many don't do this and for me, it's a critical feature.
Yes it does and I use it to time boiled eggs and other stove top tasks, however be near your kitchen to hear it when it goes off, it is not loud enough to be heard all over a house or large apartment.

Noise
I just purchased this microwave. It is quite noisy and rattles when it starts up. Is this normal??
The magnetron that generates the microwaves in ANY microwave oven is always going to generate sound. The rattle is something else, perhaps the motor for rotation platter is faulty. My unit works great and has no rattle at start up or even later. You might want to get it exchanged.
