Office 365 is a huge miss for Microsoft

I've used versions of Microsoft Office since 1990 when the product first debuted. I use it extensively every work day and most weekend days. I have it on my work computer and multiple computers at home.
I was going to upgrade to the new version and install it on my computer when I realized that Microsoft is doing everything they can to transition you to their new online version of Office (365). I decided to move ahead and see how 365 can integrate with my PCs and multiple devices as well as a new MacBook Pro.
I can't say how disappointed I am with the new online product. It is painfully slow and MS forces you to create a OneDrive account to store all of your files. When you try to open an existing file from your computer, it force-prompts you to open a new blank file, browse templates or open a recent document on OneDrive (see image). It doesn't allow you to open up a file from your computer. You then have to waste time uploading the document from OneDrive and then open it from there. (Hey Microsoft - there are a lot of people out here who don't want their documents to be sitting in your cloud storage solution).
After the file is finally open, if you’re using a Chrome, Firefox or Safari browser, you can't cut and paste images or text into the online version of the software! Each of these three browsers had a message that stated that you have to use the keyboard functions to copy and paste. I attempted this with all of them and the keyboard functions don’t work. Isn’t it surprising (not) that the keyboard functions only work with an Internet Explorer browser. In case the product team at Microsoft Office didn’t realize it, 60% of U.S. consumers aren’t using IE any longer. Do you really want to limit your market potential and force people to use the antiquated (and slow) IE browser? I should be able to use my browser of choice (a fast one) if I’m forced to use an online version of Microsoft Office.
To add to the list of misery, the online version lacks many of the formatting capabilities of the installed version.
In my opinion, Office 365 is an epic failure. Microsoft has a lot to work on to make the online version half as good as the installed version.
What's great about it: I can't find anything to say that is great about it
What's not so great: Most everything - see my review
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
