Although the cartridges appear to have a short life, the ease of installation and print quality are a big plus.

Better than previous printer, a HP 8500.

I like everything about the 8600 except the beginning print speed. Feed tray is an improvement over 8500. Ink usage appears to be very good so far.
I do wish HP would develop ink cartridges that are compatible with multiple printers. I'd just purchased a new set of 940 cartridges for my 8500 when it went to the printer cemetery.

experation date
Jim: I now have a HP 8610 and it seems that the 951 provides more ink. I don't think I have to replace the cartridges as frequently.

after uneventful uses of the printer for three days printer started making odd squeaking or rubbing sounds during print cycle
There may no answer for this problem. Mine does the same.
