We had our Comcast-provided docsis 3 modem die, and were unable to get to the local Comcast center to replace it before they closed. Rather than go without internet for 24 hours, we read up on Comcast-compatible modems and chose this one. Took a few minutes for it to establish a connection, due to Comcast's online activation procedure being very unintuitive, but we were back up and running in under an hour.

Can I play DVD's on it?
Can I play CD's also?
It has no optical drive, so no. You can get a separate usb cd/dvd drive and connect it to the usb port.

Does this unit have an HDMI port?
It has a Mini DisplayPort, you'll need an adaptor to get hdmi out.
